Convenient Camping Food and Land O’ Frost

One of the things that is more difficult when you are camping is cooking meals.  When we go tent camping we have limited cooking supplies, a 20 year old camp stove, and a cooler instead of a refrigerator.  Despite this fact my family always expects me to cook more when we are camping.  They seem to think the lack of convenient snacks in the pantry means that I will be cooking three hot meals a day.

camp cookstove (2)When we went camping last week I gave in to my family’s pleas and planned to cook both breakfast and dinner.  For breakfast we had pancakes one day and oatmeal the next.  For dinner I made beef stew and a ham hobo dinner.  But for lunch I put my foot down and said I was not cooking a hot lunch each day, and they would have to settle for peanut butter sandwiches.

Luckily for them the day before we left on our trip I received some new Land O’ Frost Wrap Kits to review.  The wrap kits comes with meat, cheese and tortillas, and comes in four different flavors:

    • Black Forest Ham & Swiss
    • Oven Roasted Turkey and Pepper Jack
    • Chipotle Turkey and Cheddar
    • Roast Beef and Cheddar.

Each kit makes 5 wraps, and includes 25 slices of lunch meat, 5 slices of cheese and 5 tortillas.  It was perfect for camping, since everything was packed together and ready to go.

It was even easier than peanut butter sandwiches, since I didn’t have to worry about the bread getting crushed, or finding a knife to spread the peanut butter.  I stuck some veggies in a ziploc bag and we added lettuce and tomatoes to the wrap with mustard.  The wraps were a big hit, and even my vegetarian daughter ate them (without the ham, of course.)   The wraps make a convenient grab and go lunch, and were much more appreciated by my family than run of the mill sandwiches.  We received the Ham and Swiss kit and the Turkey and Pepperjack kit, and both tasted great.

To be honest the food and cooking on our camping trip didn’t go that well overall.  I forgot to pack a spatula to turn the pancakes, the oatmeal I brought was designed for the microwave, the beef in the stew was tough and half of the hobo dinners were overdone and burned in the fire.  I also forgot to pack the macaroni and cheese and black bean burgers for my daughter’s dinners.  But thanks to Land O’Frost at least lunch was good!

So if you are looking for something convenient for a picnic or a new idea for back to school check out these Wrap kits.  You can connect with Land O’Frost on Facebook or twitter.  You can also download a coupon for their products on the Land O’Moms website.
