Celtic Woman Believe CD and DVD Review and Giveaway

celtic woman cd coverCeltic Woman is an all-female singing sensation featuring vocalists Chloë Agnew, Lisa Kelly, Lisa Lambe and Celtic violinist Máiréad Nesbitt.  They perform a wide range of music, which includes classic Irish songs such as “The Water Is Wide,” “Green Grow the Rushes”, along with pop and inspirational songs such as “Bridge Over Troubled Water and “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”  Their newest album Believe was just released this week, along with a companion live concert DVD.  The concert DVD was filmed in Atlanta, GA this past fall, and includes many of the songs on the CD, plus some extras, like “I Dreamed a Dream”.

I had the chance to listen to the album yesterday and I was impressed.   The women have gorgeous voices, and it is especially wonderful when all of them sing together as in the song “Awakening.”  The fiddle playing is high energy and adds a lot to songs you don’t normally hear it in such as “You’ll Never Walk Alone.”  I listened to this in the car with my 15 year old daughter, and although she might deny it to her friends, she was singing along on the songs she knew.  She told me she had found Celtic Woman on PBS when she was flipping channels and watched their concert.  Who knew she listened to anything but Top 40 music?!

I haven’t had the chance to watch the whole Believe DVD yet, but I am looking forward to it.  From the parts I have seen so far it is a high energy performance, and the women all have lots of stage presence and charisma.  Mairead Nesbitt’s fiddle playing gets plenty of focus, which is great because she is amazing, and my favorite of the performers.  I thought the CD and DVD had a great mix of Irish music with pop songs.  I like CDs that have variety and a change of pace.  If you are already a fan you will want to listen to these, and if not you should give them a try.

If you’d like to listen to a streaming song from  Believe here is “Teir Abdhaile Riu”.  And Celtic Woman is going on tour to support these new products, and you can find their entire North American tour schedule here.  They are actually coming to my town this year, so I am excited about that!

Thanks to Celtic Woman I have a copy of both the DVD and CD to giveaway to my readers.  To make it even better both the DVD and the CD are signed!

I love Celtic music, particularly the all women groups like this one and Cherish the Ladies. It’s hard to say which song I’m most looking forward to hearing. Ave Maria was my mom’s favorite song (when she was alive, it was family tradition to put on Barbara Streisand singing Ave Maria to make mom cry … lol). But, I also love You’ll Never Walk Alone & Bridge Over Troubled Water.
