Back to school shopping is in full swing around here. It seems like every store I walk into has big racks of school supplies, along with school supply lists from all the local schools. The lists include supplies like crayons, colored pencils, notebooks, folders, and rulers. And kids are looking for the perfect back to school outfit, something that is in style, but doesn’t make it look like they are trying too hard. But sometimes we overlook the basics, which is why Fruit of the Loom is using back to school time to kick off their “Underwear for Overachievers” campaign, and remind parents everywhere that kids need new socks and underwear too.
I headed to Walmart with my 14 year old son and 17 year old daughter to stock up on back to school supplies – and underwear too! We found that Fruit of Loom is offering Bonus Packs at Walmart – so you get 8 pairs of underwear for the price of 5! My daughter picked up some microfiber bikinis, because the bright blue and pink colors appealed to her. My son picked out these Boxer Briefs, although he has always worn Briefs before. My daughter told him that all the cool kids wear Boxer Briefs, which confused me. Do kids really sit around and discuss this and compare which kind of underwear is best? Well anyway my son succumbed to pressure from his older sister and went with the Boxer Briefs. He did also like that they had different colors, instead of all being boring white. After trying them he says they are “fine” which is about as much detail as a 14 year old boy is willing to give his mom about underwear!
While they needed the underwear the kids were much more excited about school supplies. We got pens, mechanical pencils, graph paper notebooks, composition books, wite-out, index cards and a bunch of other stuff too.
My kids are surprisingly picky about school supplies. They both have different brands of pens they like, and selecting the correct notebook can take a while. Since we homeschool they don’t have to worry about specific requirements from a teacher, because I don’t care what color binder their papers are in or if they write in green ink. We got almost everything we needed, including the big thing I needed, a new whiteboard for math.
