How to Make Limeade

The drink has only a four ingredients – blackberries, limes, sugar and water.  Some limeade (and lemonade) recipes require you to boil the sugar with water to dissolve all the sugar. But this recipe doesn’t need a lot of sugar, so you should be able to dissolve it all in the cold water. This saves you an entire step and all the time it takes to heat up and cool down the drink.

Limes and Blackberries for Limeade Recipe

The reason the recipe doesn’t need a ton of sugar is because it gets a lot of natural sweetness from the blackberries.   I used fresh limes and blackberries, although it would work with bottled lime juice and frozen blackberries also. Of course using the fresh ingredients means a little more work to make the recipe. First I juiced the limes.

Then I combined a quart of blackberries with some water and put them in the blender to make a thick blackberry slurry. You then need to strain the blackberry mixture to get rid of the seeds. You can use a simple strainer and pour the blackberry mixture through to get the liquid. If you want to make it more complicated you could use a food mill or a juicer to extract the blackberry juice, but a standard kitchen strainer works well enough.

This combination of blackberries and lime is delicious, and a great mixture of sweet with tart. It is easy to make a big pitcher of homemade blackberry limeade ahead of time and refrigerate it for a picnic or summer barbecue.

    Hey Anne,

This blackberry limeade looks great. I wonder how it would taste made with Splenda?
