XSRE Casting Call Event at Destiny in Syracuse

Last weekend I had the chance to attend the XSRE Casting Call Event at the new store at Destiny in Syracuse.  It was a blast, and it was great to see all the girls and women who showed up to try on some fun accessories and get their picture taken.

If you have never been to an XSRE store it is overwhelming!  The entire store is full of every accessory that you could ever think of.

WonderWorks at Destiny USA–Now Open

If you live in the Syracuse area I am sure you have already heard about the fun new attraction that just opened at Destiny USA, WonderWorks.  It is an interactive indoor amusement park, which combines education and science with lots and lots of fun, and I can’t wait to try it out with my family!

Ropes-MediaThe Canyon Climb Ropes Course is the World’s Largest Suspended Indoor Ropes Course. It is 70 feet tall, with 3 levels of ropes and over 81 different obstacles and activities including swinging steps, lily pads, a tremor bridge.  My teenagers are dying to try this, although I am a little bit nervous.

Another exhibit that my son is looking forward to is the Wonder Park.  In this exhibit he will be able to be a major league pitcher and stand on the mound and pitch to a major leaguer like Chipper Jones, Derek Jeter, Ryan Howard, Sammie Sosa, or Barry Bonds.  My son has already decided he is pitching to Chipper Jones, he thinks that is his best chance at throwing a strike and not a homerun.

Summer Fun with Honey Nut Cheerios and “Buzz”

Recently Honey Nut Cheerios sent me some fun stuff so I could take their mascot Buzz around town and let him have some Upstate NY adventures.  I got a Honey Nut Cheerios kit that included cereal, a t-shirt, bee antennas and a cardboard cutout Buzz to show around town.  Now my teenagers can be kind of jaded about posing for pictures for my blog posts, and flat out refused to wear the bee antennas. But luckily their friends are more accommodating! My daughter went mini-golfing with her friends, and the group was happy to pose with Buzz, and even wear antennas.honey nut cheerios buzz goes mini golfing [Read more...]

Camping is a great way to spend a summer weekend!  I like refrigeration and electricity too much to camp for a week, but for 3 days or so it is fun to get away and enjoy the outdoors.  Here are some of my favorite things about camping!

Wordless Wednesday–Oz-Stravaganza

This weekend we went to the annual Oz-Stravaganza held every June in Chittenango, NY, the birthplace of L. Frank Baum, who wrote the Wizard of Oz books.  In addition to the standard rides, crafts and food they also have a fun parade.

They also have some of the lesser know characters from later Oz books.  I am pretty sure the one in green is Ozma of Oz, and am not sure about the other two.

They used to have many actors from the movie show up for the festivities, but there aren’t too many who are still able to attend.  This year they had one munchkin, the Flower Pot Munchkin.

L. Frank Baum wrote 14 books about Oz, not just the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, and all of the books are in the public domain now, so you can down load them for free online for the Kindle or Nook or another e-reader.  They are excellent fantasy stories for kids, so if all you have ever done is watch the movie, try the books!

Valentines Day Gift Ideas

KONICA MINOLTA DIGITAL CAMERAWith Valentines Day only a few weeks away it is time to start thinking about gifts.  Now my husband and I usually just stick with cards for Valentines Day, so I am not thinking about presents for me.  But my 15 year old daughter has a boyfriend, and she has no idea what to get him, and is asking me for advice.  I suggested dumping him and eliminating the problem, but apparently she is looking for constructive advice!

Giving Back with Tinker Bell and Champions for Kids

Tinker Bell Christmas StockingBefore Christmas I posted about how we enjoy giving back in the holiday season.  This year my family and I participated in the Champions for Kids project, which is all about helping children in need.  In this country it is estimated that 44% of children live in low income families, a number which I found surprisingly large.  Champions for Kids is working to mobilize millions of people by providing resources to improve the lives of children in communities across America, and beyond in the rest of the world.  Each month has a different theme, and the theme for December was Christmas stockings, sponsored by Disney.
