Most of the Oreo pies I have seen are Oreo cream pies, with a rich cookies and cream filling, which is certainly tasty and would be an excellent dessert. But I wanted my pie to include some chocolate to make it even better, because more chocolate is always appropriate.
This chocolate Oreo pie is a no bake dessert, but even though it doesn’t require baking it is not really a simple dessert. It has multiple steps, and requires time for the pie to chill in between steps. So this is the kind of dessert you make for a special occasion, like Thanksgiving, Christmas or a birthday. But when you want a dessert that takes extra time and care the results are delicious! I made this for my daughter on her birthday because she is not a big fan of cake and no one missed the birthday cake at all.
How do you Make a Chocolate Oreo Pie?
For this chocolate Oreo pie the crust is made from crushed up Oreo cookies. I crushed the cookies in the food processor, mixed them with melted butter and pressed them into the pie pan for a quick and easy pie crust that goes along with the Oreo cookie theme of the dessert.

Then the pie has a layer of chocolate mousse filling. This filling is made by melting chocolate chips and mixing in an egg yolk, sugar and heavy cream. I spread it on top of the crust and then chill the pie for a while. This mousse filling is rich and creamy and adds a delicious chocolate taste to the Oreo cookie pie.
The final layer of the chocolate Oreo pie is the cookies and cream layer. For this topping I cut up Oreo cookies to mix into the filling. These are cut with a knife to make bite sized pieces about 1/4″ wide. They aren’t crushed as finely as the cookies that were used to make the pie crust.
These chopped up cookies are folded into a cream cheese and whipped topping mixture for a creamy layer that is spread over the entire pie. The key to making this topping is to make sure the cream cheese is at room temperature before you combine it with the whipped topping. If you don’t do this it will be clumpy and not spread well over the pie.

Finally small mini Oreos are placed in a ring around the outside edge of the pie, to decorate it. These really elevate the look of the pie and make it look like something you could get at a fancy bakery!
Is it Safe to Use Uncooked Eggs in Mousse?
I’ve already said the pie is a no bake dessert which means the egg yolk used to make the mousse layer isn’t cooked. Chocolate mousse is a traditional French recipe that is made with uncooked eggs. So is this use of uncooked eggs safe? Well it depends. There is a slight risk of salmonella from uncooked eggs. Many people are willing to take this small risk on occasion and eat things that include uncooked eggs, like Eggs Benedict, raw cookie dough or chocolate mousse. But if you are pregnant, elderly or otherwise at high risk you probably shouldn’t eat undercooked eggs. You can also buy pasteurized eggs and then you eliminate even a slight risk.

Recipe Tips
- I wasn’t able to find the mini Oreos at my local grocery store. However I had no problem finding them at my local convenience store, because they are most often sold as grab and go snacks.
- If you wanted to make this recipe more of a quick and easy dessert you could just use instant pudding to make the chocolate layer. Don’t get me wrong – it won’t taste as good, because the rich chocolate layer is the best part of this pie. But it will be quick to make and still look pretty!
Oh, yummy! I just might have to make this for my sister for her birthday. I think she’s love it! Thanks for sharing, I’m off to pin this recipe! 🙂

Delish! I like that this is a simple and yet complex recipe. It is easy to make, but isn’t one of those 2-ingredient recipes that often lack a depth of flavor. I am definitely going to pin this for future use.
