When Hostess asked me to come up with a festive #HostessHoliday recipe using some of their products I knew right away I wanted to use Ho Hos, and I used them to make this easy and tasty Chocolate Raspberry Ho Ho Trifle.
Hostess sent me a few boxes of snacks to inspire me, including Twinkies, Ding Dongs and Ho Hos. But Ho Hos were the clear choice to focus on, because they are my family’s favorite Hostess snack. I love them because they were my Dad’s favorite, so they always remind me of him. And they are my husband’s favorite too, something about the layers of chocolate and cream just make them special. And of course a trifle is just a layers of cake and cream, so it seemed like a perfect fit for these Hostess snacks.
Plus a trifle is one of those desserts that looks complicated and fancy, but is easy to make. So I headed to Target and picked up some instant pudding and whipped topping to put the trifle together. First I sliced the Ho Hos and used them to line the edges of some mini-trifle dishes. They look pretty edging the glass!
Then I crumbled up the rest of the Ho Hos and put them in the center of the dishes. To add a little color and fruity goodness I pushed a raspberry in between each Ho-Ho, and topped it all off with whipped topping.
Then I made a quick instant chocolate pudding to layer on top, and added a dab of whipped topping and raspberries to the top. It came out looking almost too good to eat!
Using a pre-made snack like the Ho-Hos in this dessert made it super easy to make, and it took me only about 20 minutes to put together. I am always looking for short cuts to make Holiday desserts quick and easy! It would also look great in a big trifle dish too if you are serving a crowd.
