I love to use candy in our Christmas decorating. It is pretty cheap to buy, and lots of fun to craft with, especially for kids. And of course it is always nice to sample a little bit as we craft. These DIY Candy Christmas Trees are cute and easy to make!
We started out making Christmas trees using styrofoam cones covered with candy. We were planning to make trees using candy melts, gum drops and M&Ms. But someone (me!) ate all the gum drops, so we ended up using peppermints instead.
We used royal icing to stick the candy to the styrofoam cones, and it worked pretty well. We thought glue would take too long to dry, and the royal icing dries relatively quickly. We did find that if we did too many rows at once the candy would start to slide down the cone, so we had to let the icing harden a little as we worked.
Crafting with candy is fun for the whole family, and a fun way to get some new holiday decorations without spending much money!
Let me know how you are decorating this year!
Really cute. I like the different trees grouped together. Maybe because I can’t decide which one I like the best!
Hey!
I could replace the mints with red hots for Valentine’s and Peeps for Easter – you really got me thinking. I like the different trees grouped together. Maybe because I can’t decide which one I like the best. what a great way to get decorated for Christmas–my only concern would be that my little guy would try to eat his way through our house–but it looks very pretty!!!
