When you think of classic board games the first thing that comes to mind is Monopoly. The game has been around for over 70 years, and playing it is a great family activity. It seems like most people have a favorite Monopoly token, and I know in our house we always play with the same ones. Now one of the classic Monopoly tokens is going to be retired, and Hasbro needs your help determining which one. Up for retirement are: the battleship, iron, racecar, Scottie dog, shoe, thimble, top hat, or wheelbarrow.
Everyone in my family has a favorite token. My son likes the racecar, and my husband likes the horse (apparently this one was already retired!). My daughters both like the Scottie dog best, which could be a problem. But luckily we have had multiple Monopoly games over the years, so we have more than one dog and they each use one when we play. One gets the shinier dog, and the other the dull one. Yes, this is confusing, but it is better than listening to them argue about whose turn it is to be the dog.
My favorite is the wheelbarrow, and it is one of the ones in danger of elimination. You can cast your vote daily on the Monopoly Facebook page. I just checked the standings and the two tokens losing right now are the wheelbarrow and iron. I hate ironing, and would not be at all sad to see the iron go! So I am voting for the wheelbarrow, and hope you will join the cause.
Of course once one token is eliminated another one will need to be added. And you get to vote on this too. The five new tokens up for consideration are: the diamond ring, guitar, toy robot, cat, and helicopter. I am voting for the robot, because I think it is very cute. Plus it just makes sense to me to add a fun, modern token to the game. Of course if a cat was added I might be able to get one of my daughters to chose it, and eliminate the confusing two dog problems. But I am just not a cat person at all, so I can’t bring myself to vote for it.
Time is running out to get a copy of a Monopoly game with the eight iconic tokens. But I have a copy to giveaway to one of my readers, just enter in the Rafflecopter form below.
Disclosure: I received a game to review, all opinions are my own.
