My kids and I love to make gingerbread houses for the holidays.  In past years we have made a many houses, a Noah’s ark and a castle.  This year I didn’t feel like creating something from scratch, so I took the easy way out and bought some pre-made kits.  They were cheap, and the fun part is the decorating, not the baking anyway.  So yesterday we made a gingerbread Christmas tree and house from Wilton kits.  We added in some leftover Halloween candy that we still had laying around and we have two gorgeous gingerbread creations.

The timing of doing both kits worked out well.  We glued the house pieces together with Royal icing, and then let them harden while we decorated the tree.

The tree ended up a little lopsided, but it held together.  We had lots of Starburst left over from Halloween, so the kids made them into presents and put them all around the tree.  By the time we finished with the tree the house had hardened enough to decorate.  We used up all the extra frosting green frosting from the tree and covered the house with candy.

Here are our final creations, which are now sitting on the mantle, hopefully out of reach of the pets.
