My son Robert is 14 years old now, and he is getting too old for kid’s vitamins!  It seems like every time I turn around he has grown another inch, and he is now the same height as me and still growing fast. While he is in a growth spurt it is even more important to make sure his body has all the vitamins and minerals he needs.

But of course just taking vitamins is not enough, fitness and nutrition are important too. Right now Robert is working on the Personal Fitness merit badge for Scouts. He has to make a fitness plan and follow it for three months.  So this has been the perfect time for he and I to work together on becoming more fit.  We don’t necessarily do the same things, but we encourage and remind each other.  My son wants to get stronger, so he has been doing lots of weights, and using the elliptical.  I hate the elliptical, so  I focus more on functional fitness activities like walking the dogs. Just staying active is so important.

I have also been eating more fruits and vegetables, and encouraging the kids to do the same. Robert doesn’t like to eat salads, but if I juice up some vegetables and make a green juice he will drink it right down!  Salads are much easier to make than juice, but for now I am working on increasing the amount of vegetables my kids eat, and I’ll worry about convenience later.

  1. Staying healthy isn’t always easy and definitely something I have to work hard at. Vitamins are a big part of that, along with probiotics and trying to eat as cleanly as possible. Now, if I could just get more exercise!

  2. The green juice seems so healthy, something I would love to share with my family. Can’t get my daughter to eat her veggies, but drink them that may be easier?
