I wrote this blog post while participating in a campaign by BOOMboxNetwork.com on behalf Madison Reed and received payment for my participation. All opinions stated within are my own.
I have been coloring my hair at home for about 8 years new, and it can be frustrating! My natural hair color is a light ash blonde, but it is hard to find a color that covers my gray and yet still looks natural and doesn’t turn brassy. I am sure I’d get better results from a salon, but that is too expensive! So I was excited to try out the hair coloring from Madison Reed, which offers Salon quality hair coloring at home.
I spent some time on the Madison Reed website using their Color Advisor tool to find the perfect color for me. You can determine color based on the current dye you use, or your skin tone, or even send them a photo and get personalized advice. I received my kit in the mail just a few days after I placed my order.
It included lots of extras you don’t usually get in at-home color kits, like 2 pairs of gloves, a shower cap, barrier cream and cleansing wipes for cleaning any stray color. Here is how my hair looked before I used the kit. You can see I have gray roots, and the other hair is starting to get an orange tint.
One of the first things I noticed about the kit is that the dye doesn’t smell! They use micro-pigment color technology and no ammonia-based dyes. I feel much better not putting harsh ammonia in my hair. Madison Reed promises 100% grey hair coverage, and I had enough grey to test it out! It was easy to use the dye, but there are detailed videos on the website if you need extra instructions.
I love the results! My hair came out a nice dark blonde color, and even now three weeks later it still looks great. It covered up all my grey, and it hasn’t faded through repeated washings. They also make it easy to re-order, and you can set your own schedule for how often you want to re-dye.
You can connect with Madison Reed on twitter or on Facebook. So if you are looking for an alternative between grocery store hair dye and high priced salons check out Madison Reed.
The color looks great! I’m in dire need of some root touch ups myself.
I love the design and your hair turned out great. It looks even with some great highlights too.
Looks like a great product! I have a lot of friends who color at home so I’m going to let them know about Madison Reed!
I, too, have been coloring my hair at home for many years. I have tried more expensive and less expensive hair colors, and have found that I have been just as happy with the less expensive products IF that line has the right color.
However, none of my products comes with the extras you mentioned. Plus, I just checked out the site, and it really does seem like they offer some great services – including professional color matching advice and auto-delivery (I often put off coloring my hair until some special event comes up… and when that happens it often means that my local drugstore is sold out of the color I need). I will definitely keep them in mind.
That color suits you. I’ve been thinking about coloring my hair and know that I can’t afford the expensive salon prices.
Well I didn’t see any grays in the first pic but I love the darker blonde on you in the second!
It is a great color. I have naturally black hair and I bleach it often so I don’t touch it myself. But to just cover grays (which I have a lot of) I love this.
Looks so easy to do too! I’ve been contemplating trying this out myself! Thanks for sharing this and assuring me it’s quite easy!!
I am going to have to be on the lookout for this brand. I have ridiculously grey hair that I refuse to let go natural because I’m only 41! I have to do my roots every 4 weeks or else!
I’ve been coloring my own hair since I was 15. At times, I’ll treat myself to a salon visit, but with four kids and a new career on the horizon, I just don’t have three hours for a salon visit. I’m also pretty frugal so I don’t like spending a ton of money on my hair. I will try this out for sure. Thank you for the information.
It looks great!
I haven’t heard of this hair color system before. I’ll have to check it out.
Good post. And a hair color chart can help us determine the perfect look.
