I have very fair skin that burns easily. In the summer I use sunscreen all the time, and cover up when I can. I have had some very bad sunburns over the years, so I have learned to be careful and take precautions. But there is one place that is hard to put sunscreen, and that is on my scalp. I am certainly not going to spray gooey sunscreen in my hair!
In fact scalp cancer is on the rise because of how difficult it is to protect the area. Of course hats are great, but you can’t wear one all the time. I use a hat as much as possible, but when I am going swimming it just doesn’t work! It is not uncommon for me to end up with a bright red sunburn right down my part line after a day at the beach.
Hair Shadz is an all natural micronized mineral sunscreen developed specifically for the scalp, with an SPF 15. It come in a whole bunch of color choices, and is applied with an applicator brush. This makes it easy to apply without creating a big mess. As an added bonus it also works as a dry shampoo and helps blend in the roots as they grow out in between hair colorings. Sun Shadz is the same product in a translucent color.
I received a bottle of Hair Shadz to try out for myself. To apply you need to prime the brush by tapping the applicator brush until the powder begins to come out. Then you just apply it to the roots of your hair. It is easy to apply, and it blended in with my hair color and looked natural. I couldn’t really test how well it works as a sunscreen, because around here in February there is very little sun! But I can’t wait to use this once the weather gets warm, and I am looking forward to eliminating sunburn on my scalp.
Hair Shadz and Sun Shadz are endorsed by the International Melanoma Foundation, licensed with PETA, and have a Dermatology signature of approval. The developer of Monimay was inspired to make the product after she lost her mother at the young age of 52 to scalp cancer. With increased awareness of the dangers of ultra violet radiation and skin cancer it is important not to neglect your scalp! You can learn more about the products and oder at the Monimay website.
