ImagineToys.com sent me a set of Citiblocs for my 12 year old son to review. At first I was a little dubious, after all my son outgrew most blocks sets years ago. But these aren’t your square nursery blocks with the alphabet on them. Citiblocs are wooden construction blocks that are engineered so each piece is exactly the same shape and size.
Here are some of the structures you can build with Citiblocs:
It doesn’t seem possible you could build things like this without glue, but the precision engineering of the blocks makes it work. My son loves trains, and was tempted to try to build the locomotive above, but he decided he should start with something easier. So he used the very helpful booklet that came with the blocks to create a tower.
Okay, it turned out a little off center, but it wasn’t bad for a first try with the blocks. It is surprising how easy and fun it is to stack the blocks and make some really neat structures. After he was done my son decided to see if he could pull blocks out of the middle of the tower without it toppling over. This worked for the first two blocks he pulled out, but when he pulled out the third the results were catastrophic, although predictable.
These are the kinds of toys that inspire learning – toys that make kids think, ask questions and go beyond the instruction book. My son is excited to keep building with the blocks, and figure out what works and what doesn’t. My son says he likes them because you can do much with them. He describes them as – cool, because the things you can make with them are virtually limitless.
I think we’re getting a set of these to review too, we haven’t received ours yet. Now I’m looking forward to checking them out!
Those blocks look fun! That is great that they are different from your “normal” blocks little kids play with! Great idea!
I want some! I think in my next life I’ll be an architect.
FUN!! It looks like he had a blast with the blocks! I love blocks – they are so versatile!
My little girl loves to build with blocks, these look like they would be right up her ally! Thanks for sharing.
How cool is THAT!?! I need to get the boys some of these. They would build all kinds of ‘garage’s’ for their Hot Wheels with these!
