Last week I was in New York City for a few days, I had the chance to enjoy cruise with Classic Harbor Line for an amazing tour of the city skyline.  My family and I went on the Statue and Skyline Cruise on the luxury yacht Manhattan on a gorgeous late summer afternoon.  This cruise was the highlight of our trip, and we were thrilled to receive the complimentary tickets!

The Manhattan is styled like a 1920s yacht, with wooden railings and comfortable seating inside the cabin.  We stayed on the benches in the bow for the whole trip though, and enjoyed the 360 view of the New York Harbor.  The trip goes out to see Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty, and the Captain gave us lots of information about all the sites we passed.

My husband has lived in New York state almost his entire life, and yet he has been to New York City only a handful of times, and he has never done the tourist attractions like the Statue of Liberty.  So it was lots of fun to finally see these famous landmarks that we have seen so many times on TV and in the movies, like the Brooklyn Bridge.

The cruise went right under the bridge, and then on under the nearby Manhattan Bridge, where we could get a look at the Empire State Building.

The crew of Manhattan was very professional and friendly and was able to answer all kinds of questions.  They offered to take pictures of families against the skyline, and were very attentive.  The cruise included one complimentary drink, with more refreshments available at the bar and my teenage son appreciated being served his soda in a wine glass!

I liked that this wasn’t a narrated tour, but just the Captain talking about the things that we went passed.  It was very relaxing and a great way to see the city.  I also liked the smaller, more intimate boat.  The Manhattan seats about 80 people, and there is plenty of great seating for everyone.

Classic Harbor Lines has a number of other boats, including two Schooners the America 2.0 and the Adirondack, for those that want to see the harbor under sail.  And there is still plenty of good weather left this fall for a cruise!

  1. What a fun way to see the city! The first time I went to NYC I was 12 and we took a boat tour as well. I loved that you could see SO much in a short period of time!

  2. I’ve been to NYC a few times and have shamelessly done a lot of touristy stuff 🙂 The boat we went on to tour the harbor was definitely not as nice as that thought!
