A few weeks ago I posted about some of my holiday traditions and asked my readers to share their favorite family holiday traditions for a chance to win a Hickory Farms Tools of the Trade Gift Bag. The giveaway has ended and I wanted to share with you some of the holiday traditions that my readers enjoy!
The giveaway winner is Cindi D. and her favorite holiday tradition is a fantastic one, this is what she said,
My granddaughters and I make a gingerbread house.
Making a gingerbread house is one of my favorite things also, and sharing it with children or grandchildren makes it extra fun. My family and I are actually planning to start one tomorrow, and we are going to try to make a gingerbread Noah’s Ark this year. I think this has potential to either be a huge mess or a huge success, but either way we should enjoy making it.
There were 385 comments on the post, so lots of readers shared their favorite traditions. From reading the comments it seems that the most popular traditions are putting up a Christmas tree and Holiday baking.
Since you probably don’t have time to read through all the comments I compiled some of my favorite ones! I really enjoyed reading about some of the unusual traditions family’s have, like a pickle ornament, or how they handle having to work on Christmas. It was nice to see some Hanukkah traditions posted too, because I am as familiar with that holiday and love learning how others celebrate.
We have an open house with Latkes and Jelly donuts and other treats…we light our candles and all of the little ones get a tiny gift! ~ Em D.
We hide a glass pickle ornament on the tree before the kids get up. Whoever spots it first, according to the German tradition, will have good luck for the year. ~ Sandra K.
My hubby and I always have to work on Christmas Day. We are police officers. We celebrate Christmas with the kids two days before. On Christmas Day we eat at a Chinese Buffet. We laugh and sing “Farr Rarr Rarr Rarr Rarr†Just like in A Christmas Story. ~ Stacie C.
It started with my kids and now I do this with my grandkids, we turn off all the lights except the christmas lights, lay down on the couch and cuddle and I tell christmas stories. ~ Sue S.
My favorite holiday tradition is listening to my grandma read the story of Christ’s birth on Christmas morning with the whole family! ~ Rachael H.
We visit a local church hall to view an exhibit of hundreds of Nativity sets on display, borrowed from local residents. The Nativities are made of a variety of materials from marble to paper to banana leaves…made by various cultures from around the world. It is a quiet and beautiful tradition of the Holidays that we share with our family members of all ages. ~ Elsie
I love that we get personalized ornaments for all of us every year for our tree..it reflects our big interest that year. ~ Kendra W.
Thanks to everyone who shared their traditions, and make sure that no what holidays you celebrate this time of year you enjoy spending time with your loved ones and making memories.
What great traditions! We also always make Gingerbread houses or men, that’s a fun one!
We made a gingerbread house (well actually we cheated and used Rice Krispies) and my daughter loved it! Such a fun and delicious way to get creative!
Traditions are what make the holidays so special!
I was just thinking about this today. I think I want to give my kids a Christmas book on Christmas eve to read since we always do bedtime stories together!
I love Christmas traditions, especially the ones I’ve brought to my children from my own childhood
We make gingerbread men – also a favorite tradition!
Those are lovely traditions!
I love making gingerbread houses each year
What wonderful traditions! We have never made a gingerbread house but I have always wanted to!
