These Stained Glass Votive Candle Holders aren’t really stained glass, instead they are made by covering the candle holders in colored tissue paper. But they look like stained glass, especially with a candle flickering inside them!
These were the perfect Christmas present project for us! I bought the supplies for this 2 1/2 years ago, and then never found time to do the the project. I don’t know why we waited so long for this project, because it was very easy to do and not time consuming at all. We had fun experimenting with different colors of tissue paper, and making designs in a variety of colors.
- Glass votive candle holders
- Many colors of tissue paper
- Modpodge, both Paper and Sparkle
- Paint brush
- Votive candles
The first step is to rip the tissue paper up into small pieces. Three colors for each candle holder seemed about right to my kids and I.
Then we used the Paper Modpodge to cover the candle holder, and place tissue paper on it in a more or less random pattern, overlapping the pieces a little bit.
Let the Modpodge dry for about half an hour. Then go back and coat the entire candle holder with the Sparkle Modpodge, making sure to stick down any little pieces that are sticking up. The sparkles on the glass really make the candle holders festive and add a nice finishing touch.
We are planning to give these as Christmas presents this year, now that we have finally finished the project! What quick and easy Christmas presents are you making this year?
