Klutz Solar Car–Back to School Bloggie Boogie Sponsor

button1It is hard to believe it is time to think about school, but Back to School sales have already started.  Beginning next weekend I will be participating in a fun blog giveaway event, the Back to School Bloggie Boogie.  From July 17th through July 31st, 25 blogs will be hosting amazing giveaways, each worth at least $75.  This week I am going to be highlighting my sponsors, so you can see what you can win.  My first sponsor is Klutz Books, who are well know for making fun and educational books for kids.  I love to use these books in my homeschooling, because they are perfect for those days I want to add a little excitement and break the book work routine.

solarcarnewI was sent three Klutz books to review, and the first is The Solar Car book.  This book is full of solar science facts and comes with everything you need to build a cool solar-powered racecar: wheels, axles, motors, wires and a genuine one-volt solar cell.  You put the car together without using glue, nails or tape, it all just snaps together.  My son, age 12, wanted to put it together without reading the directions, which didn’t work too well.  But once he actually looked at the book he had the car together in 15 minutes or so.

Cars 2 Review and Fandango Experience #gocars2

fd_cars2_300x250_backupI attended Cars 2 this weekend with my family and we had a great time.  We ordered some of our tickets in advance from Fandango, which I documented in this Intersect slide show.  I didn’t get an advance ticket for my 15 year old daughter though, because she was hoping she would find something more fun to do on a Friday night than attend a “kids” movie with her parents and little brother.  But her hopes didn’t pan out, so she had to stand in line at the box office to buy her ticket while those of us with advanced Fandango tickets walked right into the theater to take our seats.  Standing in line for tickets took her an extra 10 minutes, so buying at home really does save time.

What about the movie though?  We thoroughly enjoyed it.  And guess who loved it the most – my 15 year old daughter of course.  She raved about the movie, described it as “awesome”, and announced as we left the theater that we have to buy the DVD once it comes out.  The plot was fast moving and very funny.  I appreciated the attention to detail, and the movie was full of little jokes like having the ship at the beginning be one of the Deadliest Catch boats, and a cute “cow tipping” parody.  The race scenes were very impressive and fun to watch, especially on the big screen.  My daughter said one of the things she liked was that it wasn’t too heavy handed with life lessons, although I thought the message about friendship and being yourself was pretty obvious.

Cars 2 Ticket Giveaway from Fandango #gocars2

image015

Cars 2 is opening this weekend, and I’m going to see it with my family.  It has been a long time since the first Cars movie, and now all your favorite characters are back for a round of international adventure.  Mater is my favorite and I have heard he has a major role in this movie, which is great.

I pre-ordered my tickets from Fandango, and used the platform Intersect to document the purchasing process.  Check out my post over there to see the purchase step by step.  I’ve used Fandango before, and it is very convenient to order tickets ahead of time.  I print the tickets at home and can walk right past the box office line and into the theater.  The other nice thing is that you don’t have to worry about your movie being sold out, and since we are going to see Cars 2 on opening night that is always a possibility.

Ordering the tickets was fast and easy, the hardest part was deciding whether to go to a 3-D showing or not, since my family had different opinions on that.  Once we agreed to skip the 3-D this time it only took us a few minutes to pick our show and pay for the order with Paypal.  You can buy tickets for some features quite far in advance.  I wanted to check and see if tickets for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (7/15) were available yet, and yes, you can buy tickets.  In fact one of the midnight showings at our local theater is already sold out!  My teens are insisting on a midnight showing for that, so I guess I will need to buy those tickets on Fandango soon.  Other upcoming summer releases like Transformers:  Dark of the Moon (6/29) are also available for purchase.

Right now if you buy your Cars 2 tickets on Fandango and you can get a free iTunes download.  Plus Fandango has given me two tickets to giveaway to one of my readers.  The tickets are good for theaters available for ticketing on www.fandango.com or any of Fandango’s apps.   Fandango tickets to nearly 65% of the theaters enabled for online ticketing and 80% of the country lives within 20 miles of a Fandango theater, but make sure there is one in your area before you enter.  This giveaway is only going to run for 6 days, so the winner can get their tickets and see Cars 2 next weekend.

Mandatory entry: Tell me your favorite Cars character.

If you’d like more entries you can do any of the following optional entries. Leave a separate comment for each entry. Giveaway ends 6/29 at midnight EST. Open to US.  The winner will have 48 hours to respond to my email and claim the prize.

Optional entries:

  • “Like” Fandango on Facebook and tell me your Facebook name
  • “Like” my blog on Facebook and tell me your Facebook name
  • Tweet about the giveaway (can do up to 1x daily) and leave the link to your tweet in the comment. Make sure you link back to this page in the tweet.  You can use this button to tweet or write your own

Cars 2 Movie Activity Pack

Disney/Pixar has created an awesome activity pack for kids to go along with the soon to be released Cars 2 movie.  They have a bunch of great crafts that you can make, including Mazes, Soap Box Dragster Activities, T-shirt Designs, a Radiator Springs Play Set.  Sometimes the crafts we do are too “girly” for my son, but these crafts are perfect for both boys and girls.  My son and I tried making the Tube Racers out of toilet paper tubes, and they came out pretty cute.

We painted the toilet paper tubes and decorated them.  Then we cut wheels out of a foam sheet and hubcaps out of aluminum foil and attached them to the cars with paper fasteners.  The directions were clear, and easy to follow, although we did find out that cutting aluminum foil was more difficult than we expected, since it kept ripping.

Here are some of the other activities included in the set, try some out if you are looking for fun crafts.   Also don’t forget you can enter to win a Cars 2 Prize pack.
