My family are huge Harry Potter fans, so I was thrilled to get the chance to go behind the scenes of the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley at a webinar last week. This new attraction at Universal Studios will open this summer, and it sounds amazing!
Hogsmeade has been open at Universal Islands of Adventure since 2010, and it includes Hogwarts Castle and a cool Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride. In the books Diagon Alley is in London, which is quite a ways from Hogmeade. So the Diagon Alley attraction will be at Universal Studios, and to go between the two you will get to ride the Hogwarts Express! How cool is that?
After arriving in London at King’s Cross Station aboard the Hogwarts Express, guests will pass through London and the iconic brick wall archway into Diagon Alley – the Wizarding World’s shopping center.
There will be shops like Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes, featuring magical jokes and toys, Magical Menagerie, including animals, such as owls and Hippogriffs and Quality Quidditch Supplies, for all your Quidditch needs. And of course there will be food, which you can eat at the Leaky Cauldron or Florean Fortescue’s Ice-Cream Parlour.
After I watched the webinar I asked my kids what they thought the big ride at Diagon Alley would be. They immediately said it had to be the escape from Gringotts Bank, which includes a fire breathing dragon. And they were right, the new groundbreaking thrill ride will be Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, which will take riders on a wild ride through the Gringotts vault.
My family and I haven’t been able to make the trip to Florida yet to see this, but all these changes have made it move up on my list of must see attractions! It is hard to plan vacations with two kids in college, since their schools schedules don’t coincide and they have jobs all summer. But we are going to figure out a way to make it work, because for Harry Potter fans this new park is going to be a fabulous adventure!
