Key Ingredients

Ravioli – There are lots of different types of ravioli you can use for making this recipe. I used small, frozen cheese ravioli which are about 1 inch square because they are bite sized. You don’t need to thaw them before air frying them, just cook them frozen. You can use ravioli with meat filling, but my kids prefer theirs to have just cheese. Refrigerated ravioli also work well for air frying!

Egg – Egg coats the pasta so that the bread crumbs stick.

Bread crumbs – The bread crumbs crisp nicely in the air fryer.

Parmesan cheese – I like to add cheese to the bread crumbs to make these appetizers even cheesier.

Seasoning – Some seasoning is necessary for the tastiest ravioli. The first time I made these I didn’t add any seasoning to the bread crumbs and they were bland and missing something. I usually add garlic powder and salt, but you can also include other spices like basil or Italian seasoning.

Spray Oil – A little bit of oil on the ravioli before air frying makes a big difference. But don’t use commercial cooking spray because the preservatives in the oil can damage the air fryer basket. Put some oil in a spray bottle for the best results.

How to Make Toasted Ravioli in the Air Fryer

1. Dip

Put the egg in one bowl and use a fork to break it up and beat it together. Then in a second bowl mix the bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese and seasoning.

dipping the ravioli in egg

Take a frozen ravioli out of the bag and dip it in the bowl with the egg.

Then dip it in the bread crumb mixture making sure it gets well covered in bread crumbs on both sides.

It is messy, but the best way to do the dipping is by hand. Once the ravioli is coated put it on a cutting board while you make more.

2. Air Fry

Once you have enough pasta dipped and breaded to fill the basket set the air fryer to preheat at 400 degrees F for 3 minutes. Then add the ravioli to the air fryer basket in a single layer.

Don’t stack them and leave a bit of space between them in the basket. I can fit 12-15 in the basket of my 5.8 quart Cosori air fryer.

Spray the ravioli with cooking spray, but don’t use a commercial spray oil. The preservatives in the oil can damage the air fryer basket.

Use a spray bottle filled with oil or, if you don’t have a spray bottle, brush them with a little oil. A small amount of oil sprayed on them will make them crisp better.

Set the air fryer to 400 degrees F for 7 minutes. After 3-4 minutes take the basket out and use tongs to flip over the toasted ravioli. Spray them with a little more oil, then return the basket to the air fryer and finish cooking them.

3.  Adjust Cooking Time as Necessary

It is possible that you will need to adjust the cooking time, especially if you are using larger ravioli. I use very small ones, which means they cook more quickly.

If you are using larger ravioli, like the 2 inch round ones which are very common, then they might need more time to cook. On the other hand if they are refrigerated and not frozen they might need less time to cook!

So it might take a bit of trial and error to get the exact right cooking time. If you overcook them they will burst open and the cheese will end up all over the air fryer basket. And yes, I found this out the hard way, although it was surprisingly easy to clean up!

You want to find the point at which the they are nice and brown and the cheese is all still inside the pasta. So if you are making these for a party I’d advise doing a trial run first. You can cook just a few to test the time and get them perfect.

How to Serve

Once the time is up remove them to a serving plate. Serve with extra Parmesan cheese and a sauce for dipping.

Although these are traditionally served with marinara sauce you don’t have to stick with that! These would also be delicious with pesto sauce or a ranch dip. Experiment and try something new.

These are perfect for serving at a party – like your next game day get together. But they are also fun just as a side with dinner. My middle daughter is a huge toasted ravioli fan, and she loves when I make a batch of these on a random weeknight.

FAQ

How do I reheat toasted ravioli?

If you have leftover ravioli you can easily reheat them in the air fryer. Store them in the refrigerator and then when you are ready put them in the air fryer and spray them with a little oil. Then heat them at 350 degrees F for 3-4 minutes and they will be crispy and delicious

Can I air fryer frozen ravioli?

You can air fryer either frozen or thawed ravioli. Either should be cooked at 400 degrees F. If you thaw them then cook them for 5 minutes, if they are frozen air fry them for 7 minutes.

Do I need to coat the air fryer basket with oil?

You don’t need to coat the basket with oil for these ravioli unless you have a problem with things sticking to it. But using a little bit of vegetables oil in a mister sprayer to coat the ravioli themselves will make them tastier and crispier.

  • Once you have enough dipped to fill the basket preheat the air fryer at 400 degrees F for 3 minutes.

  • Cook at 400F for 7 minutes. After 3-4 minutes you can pull out the basket, flip them over, and spray them with more oil. This is optional, but it will make them a little bit crispier.
  • If you want to cook the rest of the bag make another batch.
  • Serve with marinara or other dipping sauce along with fresh herbs and more Parmesan cheese.

Notes

  • You can add extra seasoning to the breadcrumbs such as basil or Italian seasoning. Or buy already seasoned breadcrumbs.
  • Don’t use commercial cooking spray in your air fryer. It can damage the finish on the basket. Use a spray bottle with oil.
  • You might need to adjust the cooking time. I used mini ravioli, larger ones will need a longer cooking time. If you cook them too long the cheese will leak out.
  • Thawed or refrigerated ravioli can also be used. You will need to reduce the cooking time by about 2 minutes to 5 minutes.

  2. “Yields 12″…is that 12 ravioli or 12 servings? I’m trying to break down your recipe to make a single serving. From your photo, it looks like one serving might be 6 mini ravioli, but it would be helpful to know for sure how many ounces are in the bag of ravioli. Thanks in advance.

  3. This was very good. I used regular size frozen ravioli and thawed them first– I added a little bit of Italian seasoning. I think we had 10 ravioli and one egg and a cup of panko was fine. I sprayed both sides with olive oil before putting them in the air fryer, then just flipped them halfway through. Thanks for the recipe!

So unfortunately the 7 minutes you recommended wasn’t quite long enough. We needed 8 minutes. I tried 9 minutes and the cheese bursts out of the shells. And it made a mess. A delicious yet messy mess. I had to purchase name brand spray to keep my air fryer from being damaged. I totally recommend just buying the Italian bread crumbs from shake and bake because off brand will burn your ravioli. Last thing, I recommend using a knife when cutting your egg yokes for dipping. A knife seems to cut better than a fork. I also recommend using gloves when dipping the ravioli in the egg mixture because I didn’t and it caused an infection in my nail beds that took weeks to recover from. Other than that 5 stars
