Make dinner even better with crispy air fryer red potatoes. They are almost effortless to make, healthy, delicious, and the perfect side dish for your next dinner.

I make this simple recipe all the time in my air fryer and my family loves it! The potatoes have a fluffy interior with a crispy, perfectly seasoned skin. Warm-up your dinner menu with this classic side dish!

And it is so much faster to roast in the air fryer than in the oven. These are ready in about half the time it would take for traditional oven-roasted potatoes.

Another great thing about this recipe is you can vary the exact ingredients used to season it, so it is different every time. Changing from garlic powder to Everything Bagel seasoning makes this seem like a different dish.

Why Roast Red Potatoes?

Red potatoes are excellent for roasting because they crisp so nicely. They are low in starch, so they get crispy without the extra step of soaking them in water. They also have thin skin, which makes peeling pointless.

So using them means you can make air fryer roasted potatoes without peeling or soaking, saving both time and effort. You could use this same recipe with yellow potatoes, which are also low in starch.

Russet potatoes would also work, although I would probably peel them before roasting because I don’t love the thick skin.

Seasoning Variations

There are lots of great kinds of seasoning for this delicious side dish. Here are my favorites:

  • Classic – 1 teaspoon garlic powder and 1 teaspoon salt
  • Everything – 2 teaspoons Everything Bagel Seasoning and 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • Southwest – 1 teaspoon chili powder and 1 teaspoon cumin
  • Italian – 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning and 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • Cajun – 2 teaspoons Cajun Seasoning

How to Make Air Fryer Red Potatoes

1. Cut

Cut them into smaller pieces so that the cooking time is shorter. Quartering works well or dicing them into smaller, bite-size pieces.

2. Season

Put them in a bowl and drizzle them with olive oil. Then add the seasonings you have chosen and toss them, so the spices coat them thoroughly.

3. Air Fry

Spread the seasoned mixture in the air fryer basket, making sure not to overfill the basket. There can be some overlap, but make sure there are still holes open so the air can circulate. My 5.8 quart air fryer can easily hold 1 pound of diced potatoes.

Air fry them at 400 degrees F for 15-20 minutes, depending on the size. Quartered ones will need a little bit longer cooking time than diced ones.

Pull the basket out halfway through the cooking time and toss or stir them to redistribute them. This will ensure even cooking.

How Do I Tell If Potatoes are Done?

The easiest way to tell if they are done is to stick one with a fork. If the fork goes in easily, they are done. If not, cook them a few minutes longer.

How to Store

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. They reheat easily in the air fryer at 350 degrees F for 5 minutes.

FAQ

Can I make air-fried potatoes without any oil?

They will cook and will brown even if you use no oil. But with no oil, they won’t be as crispy or as tasty. It also makes it harder to get the spices to stick to them. A little bit of oil makes a big difference!

Should potatoes be soaked in water before air frying?

Soaking them before air frying can make them crispier since it removes some of the starch. But unless you are making French fries, you can achieve a similar result by coating them in olive oil and then air frying at 400 degrees Fahrenheit.

How do I reheat air fryer roast potatoes?

To reheat these, put them in the air fryer at 350 degrees F for 5 minutes.
