Air fryer stuffed portobello mushrooms are delicious and satisfying as either a cozy dinner at home or party food! These big and hearty mushrooms are packed with a rich jalapeño popper cream cheese filling.

Portobello mushrooms are my favorite mushrooms to stuff because they are so large and meaty. I stuff them with lots of cheese, jalapeños, and bacon in this recipe for a highly delicious and slightly spicy side dish.

🥣How to Make Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms in Air Fryer

  1. Prep – Clean the mushrooms by wiping them with a paper towel. Pat dry and remove the stems.
  2. Dice – Dice the bell peppers, jalapeños, and onion. Crumble bacon into small pieces.
  3. Mix – Combine the cream cheese, cheddar, bell pepper, jalapeños, onion, chili lime seasoning, garlic, and salt in a bowl and mix.
  4. Stuff – Stuff the cheese mixture into the mushroom caps.

  1. Prepare to Bread – Combine the crushed crackers and breading seasoning in a medium bowl. In another bowl, beat the eggs and milk.
  2. Dip – Dip the mushrooms in the egg mixture and then coat them in the cracker mixture. Make sure to cover the entire mushroom in breading.
  3. Air Fry – Put the breaded mushrooms in the air fryer basket, keeping them in a single layer. Cook the breaded mushrooms at 370 degrees F for 15 minutes.

Ingredients
 

  • 8 large portobello mushrooms
  • 12 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese shredded
  • 2 teaspoons chili lime seasoning
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons minced garlic
  • salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 cup bell pepper diced
  • 3 jalapeños chopped and deveined
  • 1/3 cup bacon cooked crisp and crumbled
  • 1 tablespoon onion finely chopped

Breading:

  • 1 1/2 cups crackers crushed
  • 2 teaspoons chili lime seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Pinch salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup milk

Instructions

  • Wash mushrooms by wiping them with a damp paper towel. Pat them dry and remove the stems.
    8 large portobello mushrooms
  • Dice the bell pepper, jalapeño peppers, and onion. Make sure to remove the seeds and ribs from the jalapeños. Crumble the bacon.

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine cream cheese, cheddar cheese, chili lime seasoning, garlic, and salt and stir. You can use a food processor or mixer to combine the ingredients.
    12 ounces cream cheese, 1 cup cheddar cheese, 2 teaspoons chili lime seasoning, 1 1/2 teaspoons minced garlic, salt and black pepper
  • Add the bell, jalapeño peppers, bacon, and onions to the cream cheese mixture.
  • Generously stuff the inside of the mushroom caps with the cheese mixture.
  • In a medium bowl, combine crushed crackers with chili lime seasoning, garlic powder, and salt.

  • Beat eggs and milk in another mixing bowl.

  • Dunk mushrooms into egg mixture; then dredge in cracker mixture. Make sure the mushroom is covered with the breading.
  • Preheat air fryer at 370 degrees F for 3 minutes.
  • Put the breaded mushrooms in the air fryer basket. Keep them in a single layer and cook them in batches if necessary. Air fry the mushrooms in the air fryer at 370 degrees F for 15 minutes til the outside is golden brown and crispy.

Notes

  • For a crispier finish, lightly spray tops and sides of mushrooms with olive oil spray
  • Soften the cream cheese to room temperature before starting.
  • If you want smaller mushrooms, you can stuff baby Bellas.
  • Try to pick mushrooms of the same size, so they cook at the same rate.
