Now that Christmas is over it is time to start thinking about the New Year! And after a holiday season filled with indulgent cookies, pies and other treats it is also time to start thinking about better for you recipes, like this Strawberry Honeycomb Smoothie.
This smoothie uses an ingredient I’ve ever used before, honeycomb. Honeycomb is sweet and edible and using it adds a lovely aroma and texture to the smoothie. Don Victor® Orange Blossom Comb Honey Globe Jar comes with honeycomb right in the jar, so you can take it out and make it the perfect complement to new recipes this New Year.
There is still plenty of time left for summer fun! And nothing enhances a summer get together like a big pitcher of lemonade or limeade to quench your thirst. These drinks are cool and are sure to be appreciated at any summer party or picnic.
For St. Patrick’s Day it is traditional to make everything green, and that includes beverages! Here is a collection of 10 Green Shakes and Smoothies for the holiday.
Some of the drinks are healthy, and some are more desserts. But they would all make a delicious snack for St. Patrick’s Day this year.
St. Patrick’s Day will be here soon, and what better way to celebrate than with a healthy green smoothie, like this Matcha Pear Green Smoothie.
I bought some Matcha Green Tea Powder a few months ago, because of its antioxidant properties. I am trying to eat more healthy foods, and I have heard lots of people raving about the advantages of green tea powder, so I figured why not give it a try? I am not a big fan of green tea, so after I bought it the powder just ended up sitting in my pantry until I decided to use it in this smoothie.

Football season is in full swing, and my husband and I are enjoying all the action and excitement! We don’t get to many games in person, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a fun Homegate experience while we watch our favorite teams. This past weekend we created a Japanese themed Football party featuring a Japanese Inspired Bloody Mary and Sushi.
This made a great change from our typical pizza and chicken wings, and added some spice to the games! Football might not be a big sport in Japan, but that doesn’t mean we can’t mix the two cultures together. Bloody Mary is a cocktail that has lots of variations, so it just lends itself to experimentation. I didn’t want to spend a lot of time putting together our Homegate, so I used a LiDestri Bloody Mary cocktail as a base.

I love Shakes and Smoothies as a meal replacement or snack, like this tasty Strawberry Citrus Shake!
I have had smoothies before with strawberries and yogurt, but this shake changes it up by adding a little bit of lime, which gives the smoothie a completely different and refreshing taste. It is amazing how a small difference like adding the juice of one lime can make such a big difference in taste!

My oldest daughter graduated from college over the weekend! This is a huge milestone, so naturally we had to have a family graduation party and celebrate her accomplishments. We had Mother’s Day to celebrate too, so it was a combination party with family and friends. For dessert we had a graduation cake and Coke Floats, which were the perfect ending to a hot and humid day.
We made a Coke float bar, which featured Vanilla ice cream, Coke, Diet Coke, chocolate chips, various sprinkles and gummy worms for making the ultimate Coke Float.
The holidays celebrations mean holiday cocktails! And one of the easiest holiday cocktails to make is Sangria, because you can make it ahead of time and chill it until the party starts. I made this Cranberry Orange Sangria with white wine for one of our holiday celebrations.
The Cranberry Orange Sangria is pretty easy to make. I boiled some cranberries with sugar to make a sweet cranberry flavored syrup, and then drained it off. Then I combined the cranberry syrup with some white wine, more cranberries, some cinnamon sticks and an orange. After a few hours of chilling in the refrigerator the flavors have melded into a nice fruity wine, perfect for the holidays. Make ahead cocktails like this just make hosting a party easier!
One of my New Year’s Resolutions is to use my juicer more! I bought an Omega J8003 Juicer a few years ago, but I only use it a few times a month. So I am trying to use it every 2 or 3 days now. Juicing is a great way to get more fruits and vegetables into your diet, and goodness knows I don’t eat enough vegetables! I keep buying kale, meaning to use it in juice and then finding it wilted in the back of the refrigerator a week later.
Today I threw out the kale (again), but I did find some spinach to use in my juice. I combined 2 apples, 3 carrots, about 2 cups of spinach and a 3/4 inch piece of ginger to make some juice for today. I don’t usually include ginger, and it added a very strong taste to the juice, that pretty much overwhelmed all the other flavors.
On Saturday I stopped by the Regional Market in Syracuse to browse the selection of fresh, local fruits and vegetables. It was amazing to see the mounds of produce, and it was also amazing to see the crowds of people. I went at around 10am, and it was packed, and so crowded it was hard to walk. Clearly many people in the community like the fresh products available.
No Harry Potter movie celebration is complete without hot Butterbeer to drink! So here is an easy recipe. I like this one because you melt candy to get the butterscotch flavor, so it doesn’t take long to make. It is super sweet though, since you take cream soda and add sugar and candy. It even foams up on top for the authentic Harry Potter “frothing foam”.
