It seems like summer is in full swing around here, with summer camps starting up and hot weather showing up right on schedule! We celebrated a very humid Independence Day with a family pool party to cool off, beat the heat and enjoy spending time together while eating patriotic food.
To start out we went to Walmart to get supplies for our party, which included Tombstone Pizza, Drumstick, a whole bunch of fruits and vegetables, pool toys and some cute party supplies.
Check out my Google Plus album to see my entire shopping trip. We got our yard ready, and of course we put out our flag for the holiday.
To make the party more fun we made some patriotic food! I decided to try to make watermelon stars as a fun party treat.
I used my star cookie cutters, and it worked pretty well. So I put them on a plate along with the red, white and blue strawberries for a festive plate full of food.
We also had tomatoes, extra strawberries and corn to go with our pizza for dinner. It ended up being a very colorful table setting.
The weather was hot and humid, perfect for playing in the pool. Luckily we had new pool toys to keep us nice and wet. Of course the kids fought over the rafts, since there are only two rafts, and my husband insisted on having one!
The kids also discovered that while the squirt guns were fun, there were much better ways to get each other wet.
To end the night we had some Nestle Drumstick, which are always a big hit with the children.
