I first made these for Christmas a few years ago because I wanted a fun and refreshing change from the ubiquitous peanut butter blossoms that seem to dominate the holiday cookie scene. The combination of the soft, chewy chocolate cookie and the incredible, creamy mint kiss was a huge hit, and now it is a regular in my holiday baking rotation.

🥘Ingredient Notes

For exact amounts needed see the recipe card below

There are just a few ingredients in these cookies that need explanation:

  • Mint Truffle Hershey’s Kisses: You can use any flavor of Hershey’s Kisses you like, such as peppermint, almond, or classic milk chocolate.
  • Peppermint extract: I combine peppermint and vanilla extract to give these cookies a more minty flavor. However, you can use all vanilla extract if you don’t have peppermint.

The remaining ingredients are all cookie-baking staples: butter, white sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, salt, and powdered sugar.

🥣How to Make Chocolate Mint Kiss Cookies

  1. Whisk together the dry ingredients (flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt) in a medium bowl and set aside.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the butter, white sugar, eggs, peppermint extract, and vanilla until well combined.
  3. Gradually mix the dry and wet ingredients until you have a smooth, cohesive dough.
  4. Line baking sheets with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat. Pour the powdered sugar into a shallow bowl.
  5. Scoop out 1 tablespoon-sized balls of dough. Roll them in the powdered sugar and then onto the cookie sheets. Space them about 2 inches apart.
  6. Bake the cookies in a preheated 350-degree F oven for 8-10 minutes or until the cookies are slightly flattened and crackled on top.
  7. Unwrap the Hershey’s Kisses while the cookies bake.
  8. As soon as you remove a cookie sheet from the oven, gently press a Mint Truffle Kiss into the center of each one.
  9. Let the cookies cool completely on the baking sheets before removing them.

🍴Serving Ideas

And there you have it—soft, chewy chocolate cookies with a refreshing minty twist! These versatile treats are perfect for just about any occasion, from holiday gatherings to cookie swaps to a sweet snack after a long day.

I love to serve them just a little bit warm from the oven, so the cookie is warm and the Kiss is melty. And if they’ve cooled off, a few seconds in the microwave can warm them back up!

For a casual afternoon snack, pair a couple of these cookies with a tall glass of cold milk or a steaming mug of hot cocoa. The combination of rich chocolate and refreshing mint is sure to satisfy.

If you’re hosting a holiday party or get-together, these cookies make a great addition to any dessert spread. Arrange them on a festive platter alongside other holiday favorites like sugar cookies, gingerbread, and shortbread.

💭How to Store

Place the cooled cookies in an airtight container. If you plan to keep the cookies for more than a few days, consider separating the layers with sheets of wax or parchment paper.

This will help prevent the cookies from sticking together and make grabbing just one or two at a time easier. They keep well for three days at room temperature.

For longer storage, you can freeze these Chocolate Mint Blossom Cookies for up to 3 months. Place them in a freezer-safe container or zip-top bag, and be sure to label them. When you’re ready to enjoy them, just let them thaw at room temperature.

⭐Tips

Be sure to check out the step by step instructions

  • When it comes time to add the Hershey’s Kisses on top, unwrap your kisses ahead of time and have them close at hand so you can press them into the warm cookies right away.
  • You can make the dough up to three days ahead of time and keep it in the fridge until you are ready to scoop it out and make cookies.
  • While the Mint Truffle Kisses are a classic choice for these cookies, you can definitely mix things up with different flavors and variations. Try using dark chocolate kisses for a richer flavor, or swap some caramel-filled kisses for a sweet and gooey twist.
  • Try not to move the cookie sheets once you’ve added the Kiss. The candy melts, so it it might collapse if you jostle the cookie sheets. Leave the cookies on the sheets until they have cooled.
