Around here there seem to be unwritten, yet strict, rules about what to wear to prom. For junior prom, which my daughter attended last month, a long dress is expected. But for next year’s senior dinner dance a short dress is the preferred attire. My daughter actually much prefers the short formal dresses, but she was not willing to go against the crowd and wear the wrong length dress!
But now that junior prom is over she can pick out the perfect short dress in anticipation of next year. So she really excited when I had a chance to review a dress from PromGirl.net, which bills itself as the prom megastore. We received the Clarisse Short Dress in gold, and it is gorgeous.
The dress has glittering sequins on the strapless bodice, a gathered gold sash, and lots and lots of layers of tulle, which make the dress poof out. The length is perfect for my daughter, since it falls just above the knee.  My daughter had a blast twirling around the room with the skirt flaring out around her, and of course it would be even more fun at a formal dance than it was in our basement!
One of the cool things about the dress is the bow, which has snaps so you can fasten it in different ways on the dress. My daughter wanted it horizontally, but it can also be vertically for something different and unique.
The tulle is sparkly, and falls in nice soft layers.
One thing I noticed in the pictures from my daughter’s prom is that the girls’ dresses were all very similar in style, since they were all shopping at same limited selection of stores. By shopping online at a store like PromGirl you can expand the selection quite a bit. Even if you are constrained by local tradition to a long or short dress you can still find quite a bit of variety. Some of the dresses have sequins, some are plain, some have full skirts, and some are straight sheaths, some have ruffles, and so on. So you are not limited to just one style of dresses, and can pick the kind that is most flattering. And the prices online are quite reasonable, the dress my daughter received is currently on sale for $99, which is less than many of her friends spent!
What kind of dress do you prefer for formal dances, long or short?
I received one or more of the products mentioned above for free using Tomoson.com. Regardless, I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
