Labor Day Weekend Family Game Night and Picnic

My oldest daughter, Grace, decided to come home from college for the holiday weekend, and even better she brought her roommate, Ashley, with her.  They wanted to get away from schoolwork and relax for a little while. This called for some family fun, so we planned a Family Game Night picnic

Since the girls coming home for the weekend involved a 4 hour round trip drive for me, the last thing I wanted after the long drive on Friday was a complicated dinner to put together!

The dinner was put together quickly, and we ate it outside on the deck so we could enjoy the gorgeous weather and relax.

After dinner we had to pick game for our Family Game Night. I found out that most of the games in our game cabinet are from Hasbro, including Monopoly, Scrabble, Bop It!, Risk, Clue, Battleship, Twister, Scribblish and multiple versions of Trivial Pursuit.  We decided the only way to pick was to let Ashley choose, since she was the guest after all!  She wanted to try Clue: The World of Harry Potter.

Harry Potter Clue Hasbro Game

We had a great time playing this variation on the standard Clue game, although we discovered a table with an umbrella in the middle is not ideal for games, and ended up moving inside.  With six of us playing it took a long time to finish the game, since everyone got so few cards.  It was amusing to see my husband, the only one who is not a big Harry Potter fan, get confused and stumble over all the names and spells.

Family Fun with Harry Potter Clue

We had a fun night, and enjoyed spending some time together as a family that didn’t revolve around electronic devices!  Family games are a great way to get the whole family laughing and talking together.
