🥘Ingredient Notes

  • White fish: I usually use tilapia for this recipe, but any white fish will work. If you’re not a fan of fish, you could even swap in some grilled chicken or shrimp.
  • Taco seasoning
  • Lettuce
  • Mango: I love including fruit in my taco salad bowls. Pineapple or peaches are other great choices.
  • Shredded cabbage
  • Jalapeno
  • Lime juice
  • Garlic
  • Cilantro
  • Olive oil
  • Salt
  • Pepper
Ingredients for fish tacos: taco seasoning, jalapeno, mango, shredded cabbage, lettuce, pepper, salt, garlic, cilantro, white fish, lime juice, olive oil.

🥣How to Make Fish Taco Salad Bowls

  1. Heat some olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. While you wait for the oil to heat up, prep the vegetables for the taco bowl. Chop the lettuce and jalapenos and dice the mango. Combine the chopped lettuce, shredded red cabbage, diced mango, and chopped jalapeños in a large bowl.
  3. To make the dressing, whisk together the olive oil, salt, pepper, lime juice, minced garlic, and chopped cilantro in a small bowl.
  4. Sprinkle both sides of your fish fillets with taco seasoning and salt.
  5. Sear the fish in the skillet for 2-3 minutes per side until it’s cooked through and flakes easily with a fork. You can also air fry the fish for 6-8  minutes at 400 degrees F.
  6. Flake the cooked fish into bite-sized pieces and add it to the salad bowl. Drizzle the dressing over everything and toss to combine.

🍴Serving Ideas

These Fish Taco Salad Bowls are a complete meal in themselves! I love serving them with crunchy tortilla chips on the side for a little extra texture and flavor. Here are some other ways you can jazz up the dish.

  • Chips and salsa: For a classic Tex-Mex pairing, serve crispy tortilla chips alongside a bowl of fresh pico de gallo or your favorite salsa.
  • Guacamole: Whip up a batch of homemade guac or pick up some pre-made at the store. The creamy avocado is the perfect complement to the bright, zesty flavors in the salad.
  • Mexican street corn: Air fry some corn on the cob and slather it with mayonnaise, cotija cheese, chili powder, and lime juice for a delicious side dish.

💭How to Store

If possible, store the fish, salad, and dressing in separate airtight containers in the fridge. This will help keep everything fresh and prevent the salad from getting soggy. Stored properly, your leftover Fish Taco Salad Bowls should last for up to 3 days in the fridge.

If you know you’ll have leftovers, try to avoid dressing the entire salad at once. Instead, portion out what you think you’ll eat and store the rest undressed. That way, you can enjoy crisp, fresh salad greens whenever you like.

⭐Tips

Be sure to check out the step by step instructions

  • Try other types of white fish, such as cod, halibut, or mahi-mahi. For a heartier, more flavorful twist, you could even use salmon.
  • If you use frozen fish, thaw it completely in the fridge overnight before cooking. Pat the fillets dry with paper towels to remove any excess moisture.
  • These flexible fish taco bowls are just as good for meal prep lunches as they are for busy weeknight dinners.
  • To save time on busy weeknights, you can chop up the salad ingredients and make the dressing in advance. Then, you can cook the fish and assemble everything when you’re ready to eat.
  • This is a great recipe for kids to help with. They can help measure the seasonings, wash and chop the veggies (with supervision), and mix up the dressing.
  • You can change the salad ingredients to your liking. For example, you might add tomatoes or swap the mango for pineapple
  • You don’t have to make homemade dressing. A store-bought creamy avocado ranch or a spicy chipotle vinaigrette would be delicious, too.
