This summer we have been using the grill a lot more than in previous years, mainly because we have been having problems with our stove. But while the stove issues have been unfortunate, it has really pushed me to be more creative and do more with the grill than just grill hamburgers. Thanks to Pillsbury and MyBlogSpark I even grilled pizza this week, which was a first for me.
I received a grill set and a coupon for Pillsbury Classic Pizza Crusts so I could try grilling pizza. Now I have heated a frozen pizza on the grill before, but I had never baked a pizza crust there. In fact I hadn’t ever made any kind of bread on the grill! Luckily Pillsbury has east to follow instructions on How to Grill Pizza.
The first step is rolling out the dough onto aluminum foil. I choose the thin crust pizza for my dish. Then you take the pizza crust out to the pre-heated grill, and flip it over so the pizza dough is right on the grate.
As you can see my pizza dough didn’t end up very rectangular! Then you cook it for a few minutes, and flip it over to add the toppings. The first time I did this I forgot to turn down the grill to low, and I ended up with seriously burnt crust!
I decided to make a simple Margherita pizza with tomatoes, basil and mozzarella cheese. This is one of my favorite pizza’s because it is so simple and easy to make.
All in all grilling the pizza was fun, and makes a great casual weeknight meal.
