Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows part I Review

My kids (11, 14 and 17) would describe themselves as Harry Potter geeks.  But that doesn’t really do them justice to how much they love the Harry Potter books and movies. They have all read the series, and in fact my 11 year old son just finished reading it all the way through last week.  But they were introduced to Harry Potter by listening to the books, first on cassette tapes and then on cd.  For years they listened to the Harry Potter books at night, and they have large parts of the books memorized.  For fun on long car rides they will quiz each other on obscure Harry Potter facts.

So naturally we  had to go see the first part of the Deathly Hallows movie today.  My 14 year old goes to high school, but she had the day off school today so we went to the noon showing.  They wore their Harry Potter t-shirts, and my 14 year old wore the Gryffindor scarf my son used with his Halloween costume, which got her some appreciative comments at the theater.  We all loved the movie.  It is amazing to me that the movies seem to get better as they go along, because you would think a series spanning so many years would start to flag after a while.  But the actors gave outstanding performances, and the movies was suspenseful with some cute parts also.  The villains were genuinely scary, and the dark atmosphere was well conveyed.  We can’t wait for part II, and the kids are already insisting that we should go to a midnight showing for that.
