I’m sure we all remember the devastating earthquake that struck Haiti last year. There was a generous outpouring of donations for Haiti, which is what they needed in the immediate crisis. Now Heart of Haiti is trying to help by providing “Trade, Not Aidâ€. The idea is to create opportunities for Haitian artisans to earn money, which will help rebuild Haiti’s economy. The initiative is enabling artisans to repair homes, pay school fees, and feed and clothe their families. The income also allows them to have access to better nutrition, improved education and healthcare. This is wonderful way to help people help themselves.
The items include quilts, ceramics, painting, jewelry and more. They are made from items like recycled steel drums, paper mache and stone. Each item is designed by a master Haitian artist and made by hand in Haiti. The items are lovely, and very reasonably priced. You can check out the Heart of Haiti collection at Macys, where you can find over 40 different items made by Haitian artisans.
These items would make a wonderful and meaningful Christmas present to someone you love. So don’t miss this chance to help Haitian artisans earn a living and rebuild their country.
Disclosure: I am writing this post to spread the word about Heart of Haiti through a Mom Bloggers Club member program and I will receive a Heart of Haiti pendant as a thank you.
