Hershey’s has recently rolled out a new website to support their nation wellness campaign, Moderation Nation. This campaign was created by the Hershey Center for Health & Nutrition® (HCHN), in collaboration with the American Dietetic Association and the American Council on Exercise, to help people access practical tips, tools and resources for achieving balance in nutrition and physical activity while enjoying chocolate in moderation. This sounds good doesn’t it, and I love chocolate in moderation.
The Moderation Nation website has a number of different tools designed to promote fun ways to be active and promote nutrition. Hershey’s asked me to take a look at the website and share it with you. I really liked the Moderation Eating section. This has a neat tool called the Meal Balancer tool. This tools looks at the main dish you are preparing, and suggests sides to complement it and balance the meal out. I need this, since when I plan menus I generally just plan out the main dish, since by the time I have done that I am out of ideas.  Then when I am cooking I throw together a side on the fly, or skip it, or serve the same boring thing I always serve, like potatoes.
So to test out the tool I checked my menu plan for this week and put in the dinner I am planning for today, Thai Coconut Salmon. The tool had me select what I am making and how I plan to prepare it, and suggested steamed snow peas as a side. This will go well with the meal, and help make sure we eat a balanced diet. I think this will help me add more variety to our meals.
There is also a section on Moderation Lifestyle, focused on promoting physical activity. One thing they recommend is an activity “snack.†This isn’t a huge, intensive hour-long workout, but a fun and simple activity the whole family can enjoy. The activities selected include balloon bounce, chasing bubbles and desk yoga. Here is one that looks fun – the Weed Relay. You challenge your kids to have a weed pulling race. I have lots of weeds we could use for this.
You can check out the Hershey’s Moderation Nation website for more great ideas, including the fun Batuka dance. Hershey’s has offered to send one of my readers a prize package including a backpack, t-shirt, coupons, and, of course, chocolate.
Entry Method: Please use Rafflecopter form for all entries. This giveaway will end at 11:59 pm on August 12th.
