ImagineToys.com sent me a set of Citiblocs for my 12 year old son to review.  At first I was a little dubious, after all my son outgrew most blocks sets years ago.  But these aren’t your square nursery blocks with the alphabet on them.  Citiblocs are wooden construction  blocks that are engineered so each piece is exactly the same shape and size.

Here are some of the structures you can build with Citiblocs:

It doesn’t seem possible you could build things like this without glue, but the precision engineering of the blocks makes it work.  My son loves trains, and was tempted to try to build the locomotive above, but he decided he should start with something easier.  So he used the very helpful booklet that came with the blocks to create a tower.

Okay, it turned out a little off center, but it wasn’t bad for a first try with the blocks.  It is surprising how easy and fun it is to stack the blocks and make some really neat structures.  After he was done my son decided to see if he could pull blocks out of the middle of the tower without it toppling over.  This worked for the first two blocks he pulled out, but when he pulled out the third the results were catastrophic, although predictable.
