Our family dog Dodger is a big baby. We got him from the pound about 5 years ago, and estimate that he is 6 years old. He is very large and weighs about 70 pounds. We don’t know what he is, although we have been told he is part Chow, German Shepherd and Great Dane. He has a deep, scary bark, but if someone he doesn’t know comes in the house he goes and hides. The past few days he has been following me around and sleeping on my feet because he is scared of all the thunderstorms we have been having.
Dodger only gets sick when he eats something he shouldn’t have. He was a stray before we adopted him, and he learned to scavenge for food. This means he will eat anything, and we constantly are battling to keep table scraps and other food away from him. A few months ago he ate an entire can of raisins, which are highly toxic to dogs. He needed to spend the night in the doggie hospital and that can of raisins cost us a small fortune.
