I am always looking for healthy snacks that I can grab and eat on the run. So I was glad to review these new bars from Columbia Gorge Organic called CoGoBars. Columbia Gorge Organic has been farming organically for over 25 years in the Hood River area of Oregon. They recently started making these bars, which are quite different from a granola bar, because they are made from a gluten-free fruit and grain mix that comes from pears from the company’s own orchards. The result is a bar that is tasty, all the while being gluten free, vegan and having no refined sugars!
These bars have a consistency that is neither dry or chewy. I guess the best way to describe them is kind of cake like.
To keep the bars gluten free the company uses a mixture of amaranth, quinoa, millet and pears. Then each of the bars are flavored differently, for example using organic bananas, roasted almonds in the Almond Banana Bar, and dried apricots and hemp in the Hemp Apricot Bar. They are surprisingly sweet considering there is no refined sugar, presumably because of the pears. The five flavors are:
- Superberry CoGoBar
- Almond Banana CoGoBar
- Peanut Chocolate Chip CoGoBar
- Hemp Apricot CoGoBar
- Double Chocoloate CoGoBar
- I would be hard pressed to pick a favorite, since I liked the Peanut Chocolate Chip, Hemp Apricot and Almond Banana all about the same! I probably wouldn’t buy the Double Chocolate one again, since it was just too sweet and chocolaty for me, but the rest were excellent. I liked that I could really taste the flavors, and it did not taste overly processed.
You can buy the bars at many natural food stores throughout the country, and you can find the entire list on their website here. You can also enter here to win a caddy of 15 bars in the flavor of your choice in the Rafflecopter form below. Once the holidays are over it will be time to think about New Years resolutions, like eating more healthy food, so these would be a great snack to have on hand!
