This is one of my favorite sauces for fries and chicken because it is not a basic creamy dip but has a bit of zesty flavor. It was one of the first sauces Chick-fil-A made, and it remains one of their most popular, along with Chick Fil A sauce and barbecue sauce.

A few months ago, I rearranged my kitchen drawers and realized I had many packets of Chick-fil-A Polynesian sauce “saved” for use at home! So I decided I needed to figure out how to make this myself and stop hoarding little packets!

And it turns out that this recipe is even easier than I thought, and you can make your own orangy-red sweet and sour Polynesian sauce with almost no effort. Now my family and I can enjoy it anytime!

Key Ingredients

For exact amounts needed see the recipe card below

Catalina salad dressing – This is the most crucial ingredient in the recipe. It is a blend of ketchup and vinegar with added sugar and spices. It has a zesty and tangy flavor.

Apple cider vinegar: The cider vinegar gives this its characteristic sour flavor. If you don’t have cider vinegar, you could use white vinegar, but it won’t add quite the same layer of flavor.

Honey – I like to sweeten this with honey for its natural flavor.

How to Make Chick Fil A Polynesian Sauce

Just mix everything together in a bowl. Use a whisk to make sure the honey gets wholly mixed in since it is thick. You can serve it right away; there is no chilling time needed.

How to Store

This recipe makes about a cup of this popular sauce. Store it in a mason jar or another airtight container. It will keep for at least 1 month in the refrigerator. Shake the jar before using since it might separate out as it sits.

What Goes with Polynesian Sauce?

This can be used on a wide variety of foods! Of course, chicken recipes are a big favorite. I love it on an air fryer chicken sandwich or for dipping tenders. Make some Chick Fil A Mac and Cheese to serve along with it!

It is also great for dipping fries or chips. But you don’t have to stick to those Chick-fil-A-type foods! Use it on a pizza, for flavoring pulled pork, or as a marinade for chicken or pork.

I have used it to glaze a pork loin, giving it a pleasant caramelized taste. And it makes an excellent condiment for hamburgers or turkey burgers.

FAQ

Is this really Polynesian?

No. It is a sweet and sour dressing variation and wasn’t invented in Polynesia or derived from any of the particular foods that are part of Polynesian culture.

Does Chick-fil-A sell Polynesian sauce?

Yes, they do now market it, and you can buy a bottle of sauce in grocery stores all over the country or online at Amazon. But it is not cheap, so it would be much more cost-effective to make your own using my recipe! This is such a simple recipe, so why pay extra for fancy packaging?
