🥣How to Make Crispy Potato Stacks

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F
  2. Slice the potatoes thinly. A mandolin is perfect for this, but you can use a sharp knife if you don’t have one. Just keep the slices as even as possible so they cook at the same rate.
  3. Once your potatoes are sliced, toss them in a bowl with the olive oil, garlic salt, onion powder, oregano, basil, salt and pepper.
  4. Now, it’s time to stack! You can either use a muffin tin or stack the slices on top of each other on a baking sheet. If you opt for the muffin tin, you might need to trim the slices to make them fit.
  5. Pop those stacks in the oven and let them cook for about 40-45 minutes. They are done when the stacks are golden brown and crispy around the edges.
  6. Remove the stacks from the oven and let them cool for a few minutes before digging in.

🍴Serving Ideas

These potato stacks are the perfect side dish for just about any meal. They pair wonderfully with a juicy steak, a tender roast chicken, or even a simple grilled fish.

You can also make these stacks into a fun appetizer by topping them with a dollop of sour cream and a sprinkle of chopped chives. Or, for a brunch-worthy treat, add a poached egg and a drizzle of hollandaise sauce.

💭How to Store

To store any leftover stacks, first let them cool completely to room temperature. Then, place them in an airtight container and pop them in the fridge. They’ll keep for up to 3-4 days, ready and waiting for whenever that potato craving strikes.

When you’re ready to reheat, there are a couple of options. You can zap them in the microwave for a minute, but they will lose some crispiness.

For best results, I recommend reheating them in a 350-degree F oven for about 10 minutes or until they’re warmed and have regained their crispy exterior.

And if you’re looking to up your leftover game, try turning your potato stacks into a whole new meal. Chop them up and toss them into a frittata, or use them as a base for a loaded potato skin-style appetizer.

⭐Tips

Be sure to check out the step by step instructions

  • While a mandolin is the easiest way to get perfectly thin, even slices, not everyone has one sitting around in their kitchen. If you’re slicing by hand, take your time and focus on keeping your slices as consistent as possible.
  • Watch your fingers for the love of all things crispy! Whether you are using a mandolin or a sharp knife, be careful.
  • Stacking the slices in a muffin tin is easier, as you don’t have to worry about them falling over.
  • While the spice blend in this recipe is fabulous, play around and make it your own. Love garlic? Add an extra pinch of garlic salt. Can’t get enough heat? Throw in a dash of cayenne pepper. These potato stacks are a blank canvas for all your favorite flavors.
  • The key to achieving that perfect golden crunch is all in the oil. Make sure each potato slice is well-coated but not drenched.
  • While I love the waxy texture of red potatoes for this recipe, you can use other varieties, such as Yukon gold or sweet potatoes.
  • You can make these in your air fryer. Stack the seasoned potato slices in your air fryer basket, making sure they’re not too crowded. Cook at 375 degrees F for 15-20 minutes until crispy and golden brown.
