QuackGammon is a fun, fast game from Endless Games that takes the basic rules of backgammon but makes them easily understandable for kids. Instead of playing with plastic pieces you play with cute rubber ducks.
The goal of the game is to get your ducks around the board before your opponent does. It is pretty simple, and as in backgammon the two players move around the board in opposite directions. The rules allow you to send your opponents ducks back to the start line by landing on the same space they occupy and bumping them. The first player to get all three ducks off the board wins.
We enjoyed playing this game. My oldest daughter loves and collects rubber ducks, so the cute playing pieces were a big hit. The game is for ages 6 and up, and my teens enjoyed playing it also – it wasn’t too “young” for them. I like games like this that have some strategy, but a lot of luck.
It makes it more fun to play with a wide range of ages since the youngest ones still have a chance to win. We also played it with my nieces and nephew, who are 12, 9 and 6, and it was perfect for their ages.
They had no trouble learning how to play, and it was a fun, quick game. Their favorite part was bumping each other’s ducks back to the start. My 6 year old nephew liked it so much we gave it to him to take home. The rules aren’t exactly like backgammon, but close enough that it makes a good introduction to classic game.
Overall I’d say this is a great game for families because it easy to play with a variety of ages, and the cute duck pieces will keep young kids interested. Endless Games makes a bunch of other games you can check out at their website or at a local board game retailer.
