Shameless Season One is being released on DVD and Bluray. Have you seen the show? It is on Showtime, and it follows the adventures of the Gallagher family. The father, Frank Gallagher is an awful father, he doesn’t work, drinks, lives off disability, and basically does everything he can to avoid responsibilities. That sounds depressing, but actually the show is hilarious!
Most of the work of raising the family falls on the oldest daughter, Fiona. She has to hold down the house, donning the proverbial apron and making sure her younger siblings do their chores, keep a clean(ish) house and stay fed. Fiona takes the responsibility of child-rearing which often results in humorous outcomes. Fiona feels like she has the weight of the world on her shoulders, and none of this should be her job.
I think everyone can relate to that, and think of a time when they have had to do a certain job, even though it wasn’t supposed to be your responsibility. This seems to happen a lot when you volunteer to help out! Next thing you know the entire responsibility is yours, and that isn’t what you had in mind. This year I volunteered to help with Chemistry at my homeschool co-op, and what I meant was “run a few labsâ€, but what it ended up as is “teach the entire classâ€. The first few weeks it seemed like an overwhelming task, but now I am enjoying it. Of course jobs you get stuck with don’t always end up being fun, and Fiona certainly doesn’t feel that way about her tasks.
