Combining umami-rich soy sauce, sweet honey, and aromatic garlic is simply irresistible. These wings are the perfect balance of salty, sweet, and savory – a true triple threat! They’re the kind of appetizer that will have your guests fighting over the last wing and begging for the recipe.

While chicken wings have a reputation for being unhealthy and messy, the air fryer addresses those concerns. You cut way down on the oil and calories typically associated with deep-fried wings. And the air fryer contains all the splatters and spills, making cleanup easy.

In this post, I’ll walk you through the simple steps for air frying and glazing your wings. I’ll also share some tips, serving suggestions, and variations to keep things interesting. So, let’s fire up their air fryer and make some amazing soy garlic wings.

🥘Ingredient Notes

For exact amounts needed see the recipe card below

  • Chicken wings: I prefer to buy these already cut into drumettes and flats.
  • Baking powder: It’s the secret to getting those crispy, crunchy wings we all crave.
  • Salt
  • Garlic powder
  • Honey
  • Soy sauce: I use low-sodium soy sauce.
  • Garlic
  • Sesame oil: I love this for added flavor, but you substitute vegetable oil if that is what you have.
Ingredients for chicken wings recipe: raw chicken wings, baking powder, honey, garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, garlic powder, and salt, each in separate bowls on a countertop.

🥣How to Make Soy Garlic Wings

  1. Pat the wings dry with a paper towel. If they aren’t separated into drumettes and flats, cut them apart.
  2. Toss the wings with baking powder, salt, and garlic powder in a large bowl until evenly coated.
  3. Arrange the seasoned wings in a single layer in your air fryer basket. Cook at 360 degrees F for 18 minutes. Then flip them over, crank the heat up to 400 degrees F, and cook for 6 minutes so they are extra crispy.
  4. While the wings are cooking, whisk together the honey, minced garlic, sesame oil, and soy sauce in a small saucepan. Heat on low heat for 3 minutes or so.
  5. When the wings are done cooking, transfer them to a large bowl and pour the sauce over top. Toss everything together to coat the wings in that glossy, sticky glaze.

🍴Serving Ideas

I love serving soy garlic wings with a sprinkle of sesame seeds and some thinly sliced green onions for a pop of freshness. They’re the perfect appetizer for game day, movie night, or really any occasion that calls for some serious finger food.

Of course, they are the perfect addition to any game day spread. Serve them alongside some crispy fries, crunchy veggie sticks, and various dipping sauces (my favorite is a cool, creamy ranch). Add a few cold beers, and you’ve got a winning combo.

I also occasionally make wings for dinner. These wings go well with fluffy white rice, steamed broccoli, shredded carrots, and an extra drizzle of sweet and savory soy garlic sauce.

No matter how you serve them, these Soy Garlic Wings will be a hit. They’re the kind of appetizer that’s equally at home on a fancy party spread or a casual movie night in. So get creative and have fun with it!

💭How to Store

These wings are best served hot and fresh out of the air fryer. If you have leftovers, store them in the fridge for 3-4 days. When you’re ready to reheat, just pop them back in the air fryer at 400°F for a few minutes until they’re crispy and heated through.

⭐Tips

Be sure to check out the step by step instructions

  • Before you season your wings, make sure to dry them with a paper towel. This will help the baking powder and spices adhere better and ensure a crispier skin.
  • I prefer to buy wings already cut into flats and drumettes. But you can buy whole wings and cut them yourself. You can also cook the whole wings without cutting them apart.
  • Arrange your wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket, with a little bit of space between each one. This allows the hot air to circulate evenly and helps the skin get nice and crispy on all sides. My 5.8-quart air fryer will hold 2 pounds of wings. You may need to cook your wings in batches if you have a smaller air fryer.
  • One of the nice things about this recipe is its easy customization. If you like your wings a little sweeter, add extra honey. If you’re craving more garlic flavor, throw in an extra clove or two. And if you want some heat, a pinch of red pepper flakes or a squirt of sriracha should do the trick.
  • To make oven-baked wings, arrange your seasoned wings on a wire rack set over a baking sheet. Bake at 400°F for 40-50 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the skin is crispy and the meat is cooked through. Then, toss with the sauce as directed.
  • While the sesame oil adds a nice nutty flavor to the sauce, it’s not 100% necessary. If you don’t have any on hand, you can simply omit it or replace it with another neutral oil (like vegetable or canola).
