To celebrate spring I was challenged to use Tyson Chicken Nuggets to create some springtime art, with some help from my kids of course! After all, playing with your food is always fun, no matter what your age.
To get in the mood for nugget decorating my daughter and I attended a demonstration at Walmart, where they were sampling Tyson Nuggets and Capri Sun.
It is always fun to snack while you shop, and my daughter took full advantage of the chance to drink juice and eat nuggets! We also picked up some new flavors of dipping sauce to try with our nuggets, and some fruit and vegetables to use. You can see all the details of our shopping trip in my Google Plus album.
Once we got home we had to decide on theme for our Springtime Food Art. My kids felt flowers would be too predictable, and animals would be difficult. So we finally settled on one of their least favorite parts of spring – bugs!
We had a lot of fun making our nugget creatures. My son decided to make a ladybug, mainly because he likes ketchup on his nuggets and ladybugs are red.
He used raisins for the ladybug’s spots, and we cut grapes into slices to make eyes. Then he added banana slices for the legs and decided it was good enough to eat.
My daughter made a dragonfly, and used tangerine slices and carrots to make the wings. She also used grapes for the eyes, and covered it with lots of honey mustard sauce, which is her favorite thing for dipping nuggets.
I made a caterpillar, and used guacamole for grass, orange peppers for the antenna and mustard and carrots to decorate his body.
Then I decided the plate was too empty, so I used my last nugget with honey mustard and yellow peppers to make a sun. We had a great time making lunch! I had never thought of eating guacamole with chicken nuggets before, but they make an excellent combination. And my kids ate more fruits and vegetables with their nuggets than they usually do, since the food was already on their plates. So it was success both as art and for nutrition!
