My oldest daughter has decided that for her biology degree she wants to specialize in mycology – the study of mushrooms and fungi. I am not sure what kinds of jobs there are for that, but she is spending her free time in the woods, photographing and finding mushrooms like this one!
My kids and I toured the Sturgis Pretzel factory last week, the oldest commercial pretzel factory in the country. They learned to twist pretzels and became officially certified pretzel twisters.
We didn’t pick all our apples last fall because there were so many. It turns out the birds love the ones we left on the tree! Maybe all the birds are a sign that spring will be here soon!
My daughter’s pet Chinchilla is very cute! He is hard to photograph though, because he never sits still.
We have a bumper crop of apples from our trees this year. We picked half of them this week from our two trees, and we have bags and bags, so I guess I am making apple sauce this week! Even our dog got in on the fun of picking, and munched on a few that […]
After spending every moment of free time for the past four weeks working on replacing all the decking on our deck we finally finished. So we celebrated by turning our old rotten decking into a huge bonfire! The kids thought this was the best part of the whole project.
We have been hard at work this fall fixing up our deck. It is a nice large deck, but after 15 year of sun exposure the boards are cracked and nails are popping up all over it. So we are ripping out the decking and replacing it with composite.
A few weeks ago we drove by a sign for Stone Quarry Hill Art Park near Cazenovia New York, and decided to stop in on the spur of the moment since it sounded interesting. It is a very unusual park, filled with outdoor art and sculptures.
My daughter’s roommate just got a bunny, and our dog had the chance to meet it this week. The dog wasn’t sure what to make of it!
My kids always enjoy fishing – even though all they ever catch is tiny ones like this.
My kids tried kayaking out last week, and they loved it.
We spent some time over the weekend driving around on truck trails through a state forest. My family took the opportunity to search for wild raspberries and blackberries along the road.
My son attended the National Boy Scout Jamboree in West Virginia last week. Here are some of his pictures.
We visited a local park over the weekend and my girls had a blast trying to catch frogs.
My son spent the weekend at Watkins Glen with his Boy Scout troop enjoying some racing.
My family and I had the chance to visit the Oneida Community Mansion House a few weeks ago. It is a fabulous old building, that was the headquarters for the utopian Oneida Community in the late 1800s. The Community only lasted about 30 years before it disbanded and morphed into a silverware company.
My son is finally tall enough to mow the lawn! His enthusiasm for this chore will probably wear off quickly, but that is too bad, because I have a feeling he is going to be doing it for years.
