No one wants to scrimp on Valentine’s day and give their sweetheart something lame, but money is always an issue! The reality of the current economy means that most of us don’t have the money to be extravagant. But that doesn’t mean Valentine’s Day has to be disappointing. This year make Valentine’s Day about being creative, not being extravagant!
Make Something: I am not super creative, but it doesn’t necessarily take a lot of talent to make a special gift. Time and effort spent on making a personal gift will be appreciated. You can print pictures out and make a photo album for your sweetheart. Or you could find a poem that expresses your love and print it out and decorate it. Or just make a plate of chocolate chip cookies – you don’t have to do something exotic. Spending time and thought on a project makes a huge difference.
Pick Simple Meaningful Gifts: If you want to buy something think meaningful, not expensive. Pick something that reminds you of a time you two spent together. You could get a silly souvenir that reminds you of your honeymoon or a romantic vacation you shared. Or make a mix tape or online playlist with the songs that are most special to the two of you.
Do Something Free Yet Romantic: A romantic walk along the beach or a picnic in the park can be lots of fun. Maybe you have snow on the ground like we do, but there are still places to go. Frozen waterfalls are gorgeous in the ice and snow, and very romantic. And after a visit to a frozen waterfall or pond you will have a perfect reason to snuggle up and get warm!
Prepare A Special Meal: Cooking at home is cheaper than dining out, and restaurants are very crowded on Valentine’s Day too. So save money by making your own dinner. Pick something simple and easy to cook that is still special, like a nice steak or shrimp dinner. You can make easy desserts that look fancy, like the Chocolate Raspberry Trifle I made out of Ho-Ho’s or strawberries covered in chocolate.
Whatever you decide to do this Valentine’s Day remember that you can’t put a price on love!
