To me one of the best things about summer is the fresh summer fruit. And watermelon is about as summery as it gets. You can grow them in your garden, or just pick one up at the grocery store.

This fresh summer vodka watermelon cocktail is made from only three basic ingredients, so it is about as easy to make as possible.

How to Make a Vodka Watermelon Cocktail

This easy to make watermelon drink with vodka can be made in about 10 minutes!

Juice the Limes

First you need to juice a bunch of limes. You want to end up with about 1/4 of a cup of lime juice, which should take 3 limes.

Juicing a lime takes no time at all, just cut the lime in half and squish it onto a citrus juicer. You can also just squeeze them by hand if you don’t have a citrus juicer!

I recently helped my in laws clean out their basement and they had the cutest glass citrus juicer, which I took for myself and have been using constantly ever since. It is amazing how many recipes require fresh lime or lemon juice!

Cut the Watermelon

Then you need to cut the watermelon into cubes. This is easiest if you slice the watermelon and then cut the rind off.

Using a seedless watermelon is a good idea for this recipe. You could pick the seeds out after you cubed the watermelon, but that would make this much less of a quick and easy drink recipe!

measuring the cubed watermelon

Once the watermelon is cubed measure out about four cups of cubes for the watermelon drink. You should have plenty of watermelon left over for snacking on.

Blend the Vodka Watermelon Cocktail

Next put the lime juice, watermelon cubes in a blender and mix them until smooth. Once they are well combined add the vodka to the blender and blend for a few seconds to mix it in. The whole process is super quick and easy!

Now perhaps you are wondering about why there is no added sugar. Watermelon is super sweet and I don’t think this drink needs any added sugar. As long as the watermelon is ripe it should make the drink quite sweet.

Not adding extra sugar really lets the flavor of the watermelon shine through. But if you like your cocktails extra sweet by all means add some sugar or some simple sugar syrup.

Suggested Cocktail Variations

If you want to make this a virgin watermelon drink just leave out the vodka. You could also mix it with some ginger ale instead of alcohol, especially if you want to make a punch to serve at a party.

Another great idea is to make this a frozen vodka watermelon cocktail. Either add ice to the blender when you mix it or freeze the watermelon cubes for an hour or so before blending.
