Half Moon Cookies

Make this classic cookie from Utica, NY!

Large cake-like cookies are frosted with vanilla and chocolate buttercream frosting. These cookies are different from NYC Black & White cookies because of the cakey texture and creamy frosting.

INGREDIENTS

Cookies: sour cream white sugar shortening egg vanilla flour baking powder baking soda salt Frosting: butter powdered sugar cocoa powder cream vanilla salt

Cream the sour cream, shortening and sugar. Add the egg and vanilla. Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt with the mixture to make a thick cookie dough.

Drop 1/4 cup of batter on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat. Spread it into a 3 inch circle. You will only be able to fit 3-4 cookies per cookie sheet.

Bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for about 12 minutes, until cookie is done in the middle. Let them cool on the sheets for 5 minutes before removing to a wire rack.

Make chocolate and vanilla buttercream frosting.

Flip the cooled cookies over and frost the flat bottom of the cookies. Spread vanilla frosting on half and chocolate on the other half.

Enjoy these large, fluffy cookies with a big glass of milk!
