INGREDIENTS

STEP 1
Wash and cut the apples and oranges. Peel the orange, but there is no need to peel the apples.

Add the fruit to a large saucepan or pressure cooker. Fill it up about halfway. Add the whole spices and water to cover the fruit.

Pressure cook 15 minutes or simmer for 2 hours on low heat on the stove. Or cook in a crockpot for 6 hours on low.

Remove the large spices like cinnamon stick and nutmeg. Then mash the fruit with a potato masher or large spoon.

Strain the cider. I strain it twice, first though a colander to get out the big pieces, then through a wire strainer.

Add brown sugar to taste to sweeten the cider. Add a few tablespoons at a time, stir, and then taste before adding more.
