How to Brine Turkey

Learn how to brine turkey this Thanksgiving. Brining makes the meat juicy and tender.

- 1 Tablespoon peppercorns – 2 sprigs thyme – 2 sprigs rosemary – 2 bay leaves – 4 cloves garlic, minced – 3 cups apple cider – 1/2 cup maple syrup – 1/2 cups kosher salt – 1-2 cups ice – turkey

BRINE INGREDIENTS

Combine all the ingredients except the ice and turkey in a saucepan. Heat the brine until the salt dissolves.

Pour the brine in a large bowl and add the ice. Refrigerate for at least an hour until completely cooled.

Never add turkey to hot, warm or room temperature brine!! For food safey make sure the brine is completely cool.

Put the turkey in a heavy brining bag. Pour the brine over top and close the bag tightly. Refrigerate it until time to cook the turkey.

Brining Time Whole Turkey:  12-24 hours Turkey Legs, Thighs or Breast: 2-4 hours

Take the turkey out of the bag and rinse it with cold water. Rinsing it keeps the turkey from being too salty.
