My daughters are always excited to go back to school shopping, but my 14 year old son Robert hasn’t been that enthusiastic in the past. But since he keeps growing he is the one who really needs new clothes! With high school starting this year he has become more interested in how he looks, and wants to put his best foot forward. So this year he took along a personal fashion consultant on his back to school shopping trip to JCPenney, his 17 year old sister. She was happy to pick out clothes and help him find ones that are trendy and in style.
We arrived at the mall a few minutes before the store opened, and headed right for the Boys clothing section when the doors opened. My daughter started to load Robert up with jeans, shirts and shorts, and he started to wonder what he had gotten himself in for.
He tried on outfit after outfit, and his sister gave him a thumbs up or thumbs down. Finding jeans that fit and that looked good was the biggest challenge. They decided that he was too short for skinny or boot cut jeans, and he finally found some straight leg jeans in size 12 slim that fit well. I appreciate the range of sizes and styles that were available at JCPenney, because Robert is so skinny that he really needs the slim jeans. They also have the elastic waistband that can be expanded, so if he does start to fill out a little the jeans will still fit.
Another big thing Robert was looking for was long sleeved shirts that button. Until this year Robert’s wardrobe has mostly consisted of t-shirts, but both he and his sister agree that he needed to find something a more stylish now that he is in high school. JCPenney had many to choose from, so he was able to get shirts in a variety of colors and fabrics.
He also needed to pick up some shorts for the remaining warm weather. I am sure he will be wearing shorts for at least the next six weeks, and I was glad to see that the shorts were on clearance!
In the end he finished with a great selection of clothes which included jeans, long sleeved shirts, shorts, a hoodie and even a moisture wicking t-shirt for running. He was happy with his new clothes, and his sister didn’t even pout about the fact that she didn’t get any! The prices were reasonable too, and a few of the shirts rang up at 30% off, which we didn’t realize when we shopping. It is always nice when the total at the register comes in lower than expected! Now Robert is ready for high school, with stylish but affordable clothes.

We didn’t do any shopping at JCPenney this year but we usually do. I did most of our shopping outside of the mall this year.
That’s one stylish guy! I haven’t been in JCP for a while, but have shopped there for myself before. Good reminder to go back them out and I bet my son would really like that bookbag(?) that your son has in the one photo.
I don’t shop JCPenney anymore, and not sure why. Just haven’t in years. I do most of my shopping at Kohls and online.
What a cutie by the way 🙂
I am loving JC Penney’s lately for everything 🙂 They are on a comeback and their TV ads are very cool!
SInce we’re homeschooling we don’t really do “back to school” clothes shopping. Love those plaid shorts though, they are really the style this year.
Great choices!!
I used to LOVE JC Penney, then they got the new CEO. I am starting to love them again!
