This is a great time to reconnect with our families and bond over helping the community and our environment. Recycling is something the entire family can do together, making sure that only the correct things end up in the blue bin. You can also use recyclables for some fun arts and crafts projects, keeping kids busy and engaged.

Ever since I was a child I have loved making homemade ornaments for our Christmas tree! These are some cute Pine Cone Men Ornaments that my kids and I made for this year’s tree!
I remember making these ornaments with my mom, so I wanted to recreate that experience with my kids. Over the weekend we set off to collect pine cones and acorn caps from our backyard, and found quite a few pine cones and not as many acorn caps. I think our search would have been a little more fruitful if we had done it a month earlier, but planning ahead is not my strong point. You could of course buy some of each at a craft store if you don’t have an easy source available.
I saw a cute Candy Corn Wreath on Pinterest, and decided I had to make one of my own.
I had almost an entire bag of candy corn left after making the Candy Corn Fruit and Yogurt Parfaitearlier in the week, so this seemed like the perfect way to use it up. I suppose eating it would have worked too, but that seemed like a bad idea!
Candy corn can be pretty addictive to eat, so turning it into a decoration is a great way to eliminate the temptation.

Last week my daughter bought me a mini-daffodil plant, because she knows they are my favorite flower. Flowers are a great way to brighten up the winter doldrums and remind ourselves that spring is just around the corner!
So I asked my daughter to make me some flower pots to hold the daffodils, along with some herbs that I have had sitting on the window sill in the kitchen. She found this pin on Pinterest which made thumbprint polka dots all over a terracotta flower pot, and changed it up by making thumbprint butterflies on the flower pots.
Looking for a simple Easter decoration? Check out this Easter Peeps Garland I made – it is fast, easy, cheap and quite cute!
To make the Peeps garland I gathered two packages of Peeps along with a whole bunch of jelly beans. Then I threaded a needle with white thread and started stringing Peeps interspersed with jelly beans.
I have been making naturally dyed Easter Eggs for years, and it is always fun to see the colors that you can create from nature. This year I saw some Onion Dyed Easter Eggs on Pinterest that had leaf patterns imprinted on them. I decided to make some of my own, using herbs along with a wider variety of natural dyes. Here are my natural herb stenciled Easter Eggs!
They came out even better than I expected, and weren’t too difficult to make either. Pantyhose are used to hold the herbs tight against the eggs during the dying process. Although the original project used blown eggs I hard boiled my eggs, because it seems simpler to me, and because my kids love hardboiled eggs for a snack. Here is how I created the Easter Eggs.
It looks like spring might finally be here – our snow is melting and we can actually see grass! To celebrate I made this pretty Spring Tulle Wreath with Butterflies.
It was very easy to make, and took less than an hour from start to finish. And it is brightening up my front door now and reminding me that nicer weather will be here soon!
