Since we added a new dog to our family in March we have been having even more fun with two dogs.  Now that the weather is finally nice my kids and I have been getting the dogs outside to play every day.  We are also working on training our new dog Ziggy so that he can be outside off the leash and play safely with our older dog Dodger.  Pet safety is important when dogs are not on leashes, and well trained dogs are key.

We have about 3 acres of land and no fences, and we want our dogs to be able to be out in our yard without always being on a leash.  They love going wading in our pond and exploring the woods with the kids.  But in order to do this safely they need too learn to come when called.  Dodger is very well trained, so now we are working on training Ziggy.  Like most dogs he loves treats, and we have been using Nudges treats to help train him.

As I expected Duck Flavor was a big hit with both dogs. The treats are nice big jerky treats.  Jerky treats are perfect for training, since it is easy to rip it into smaller pieces for rewarding Ziggy.  Of course even though Dodger is already very well trained I still make sure he gets his share of Nudges!

The boys love to be outside together.  Dodger stands guard watching for dangerous birds and bugs, while Ziggy tries to scare every frog he can find in the pond.  Ziggy’s training is going well. Dodger is bigger and older, so Ziggy follows Dodger everywhere, which makes him relatively easy to train with.  The positive reinforcement dog training with Nudges is one of his favorite parts of the day.

He is doing so well that this weekend the dogs were able to spend the afternoon outside with the whole family, chasing frogs and snakes at our pond. They wore themselves out playing in the sunshine while we all enjoyed the beautiful weather.

  2. Your dogs are so cute! When we are at parks with the kids, I wish pet owners would leash their pets. It is just safer. We love dogs and my kids still think they can go up to dogs. No matter how often I tell them otherwise they flock to the dogs!

  3. It looks like you have a couple of very happy dogs. I am also very careful about what I feed my dogs. I’ll have to check this brand out for them.

  4. Thanks for sharing. I am always looking for American made products – even for my dogs. (They may not care, but I do.) I will have to get them some. They will be delighted.

  6. We’re so ready for a dog, and we know training is going to be a big part of that. Treats are always a really great way to positively reward and reinforce.

BTW, I’m so envious of all your acreage that you and your fur babies have to roam!

  7. I used to love spoiling our dogs. We never had a shortage of treats for them! Someday, we’ll have the emotional capacity to have dogs again but I’m not ready yet.
